Eberstadt (Barshim 2.35m)

Postby croflash » Sat Aug 18, 2012 7:53 am

1 Barshim, Mutaz Essa (QAT) 2.35
2 Grabarz, Robert (GBR) 2.33
3 Mudrov, Sergey (RUS) 2.30

4 Shustov, Alexandr (RUS) 2.27

Wendrich, Falk (GER) 2.24
Mason, Michael (CAN) 2.24
Nieto, James (USA) 2.24
Ukhov, Ivan (RUS) 2.24
Theiner, Wojciech (POL) 2.20
Günther, Martin (GER) 2.20

Apparently Ukhov looked a lot better during practice, then his technique failed him during the actual competition. Barshim said being from Qatar the weather was ideal for him (today is the warmest day of the year in Germany).

I noted that Carlo Tranhardt jumped 1.87 in the men 55 class. He looks terrific in the pictures from the meet.

From the front page article: http://www.european-athletics.org/news/ ... r-day.html

"I lost two to three kilos in London," Ukhov revealed, "and that led to one or two little technical mistakes creeping in."

What happened in London? Did he get sick from drinking too much?

Very impressive by Gordeyeva. I thought she was stuck at 1.98-1.99. She must like Eberstadt. Her previous PB of 2.02 from 2009 was from Eberstadt as well.

The Russians now have 3 jumpers at 2.03 (6-8) and higher this year. I don't know the last time that happened.

Yes, indeed. Most of the high jumpers love the meet in Eberstadt because it's so unique.

Gordeeva actually tried to clear 2.08m and said she was a bit sad because she wasn't able to do that, but of course felt very happy overall.

Strange result! Gordeyeva never looked great this year (her previous season best was set at Decanation in Albi, France, some days ago and it was 1.95... than she had a very but result in Stockholm, something like 1.92, and now... this!) I wonder if Chicherova was present, would she have jumped 2.10? Great result from the youngster Barshim, he has a huge potential but he often doesn't manage to jump properly when it counts.

This was a first, breaking a tie with two pairs (Chicherova/Slesarenko, 2008; Chicherova/Shkolina, 2012). She's now the fourth ever Russian over 2.04m (Bykova, Slesarenko, Chicherova, Gordeeva).
