All this talk of VCB and SAFP leading off the curve with huge margins I dont see happening at all. Felix is technically the best curve runner. VCB has beaten her off the curve simply because she's the better over the shorter distance, but this year we've seen a new, faster Felix over 100m. I don't see Felix being that far behind off the curve at all, and she has a nice gentle curve in lane 7. Let's also not forget what happened in Helsinki 05 when VCB ran outside her lane on coming off the curve; she's not technically great, it's just sheer speed/brute force.
Oh, and this silly talk of SAFP "running 21.5's and 21.7's in training" is ridiculous. What do you mean "in training"? Has been doing 200 repetitions? Has she been doing 200m time trials? Has she done a 200m time trial? Is this an estimation of form based on something else she's done in training? It's nonsense.

I am so in agreeing with this post. This is so true

Even tho my boo is not in the best 200 shape she is still a fighter. Glad she came out on top in her semis.Vcb knows that the gold is not hers I think she is just fighting to medal. Allyson looks great but I see Shelly running Allyson down to the wire. Good luck to all the ladies tomorrow
"Shelly running Allyson down to the wire" isn't going to happen. Best one can hope for is that Shelly will hang on for dear life.
No one is going to run down Allyson , I think SAFP and VCB will come off the curve in front but AF will come pass them and maybe even SRR also but i dont see anyone running down Felix
Watch and see for yourself tomorrow.Rummor has it that shelly have been running 21.70s in training. In Shelly semis she stopped running about 60 meters and SRR was able to catch up. But trust me Shelly is in 21.60 shape. Allyson is the clear winner but don't be suprise if Shelly run down Allyson for the gold
Running someone down is definitely not SAFP's style. If SAFP wins today, it will because she comes off the turn with such a commanding lead that neither AF, VCB, or SRR (probably the three best closers in the world right now) can catch her. It won't be because she runs down any of them inside of 100 meters to go.
liuxuan wrote:Felix has looked rediculously easy - she had a real look of excitement on her face when she was interviewed by the BBC after her semi final and said she feels ready to run a fast time. I found that telling because I would normally expect Allyson to say she feels ready to win, doesn't normally talk about times the way you can tell Sanya gets obsessed with her 400m times - I think Felix is expecting a PB in the final.
As for everyone else - VCB has got her game face on, she KNEW that if she wasn't in the middle she wouldn't have as good a chance to run a storming bend and put pressure on SAFP, SRR and Jeter. She has that opportunity to blow past Sanya, and be alongside Felix coming into the straight. I dont think she is in PB shape or anywhere near that, but I do think she could run 21.9x if she gets out to a good start and her stride doesnt start to tighten at around 130m as it has done several times this year.
Shelly ann vs SRR in the semi was basically Shelly Ann strolling and Sanya pushing to the end so that she got a good lane. I dont think Sanya has enough explosive speed to medal - she could possibly end up with a repeat of her Osaka 200m final with VCB blazing past on the bend and I've got a feeling she might be back in around 22.2 again like the trials. she has done a lot of running. As for Shelly Ann, she ALWAYS ups her game in major finals. She always gets acknowledged for her great start, but I actually think one of her great strengths is her mental strength and her ability to focus and pull the best out of herself for the big occasion and I think she will do that again. If conditions are good i see 21.9 again
As for Jeter she looked ok, I actually think lane 9 is an excellent lane for her and we will see her close to the jamaicans in around 22.1
So I guess I'm going......
Felix 21.68 VCB 21.94 SAFP 21.96 Jeter 22.08 SRR 22.23
Most people might think thats a little optimistic for VCB, and it probably is, but im putting faith in her championship spirit as she has proved herself to be such a warrior
a more realistic analysis might read....
Felix 21.80 SAFP 22.06 VCB 22.16 Jeter 22.19 SRR 22.30
we'll just have to wait and see
I like your projections!!! However, I know that Felix will run sub 21.6 if the track is dry, and the conditions are favorable. I see Felix at 21.53ish....
EPelle wrote:The 2007 USATF Champs had Felix run prelims one day followed by a semi-final and final the following day -- as London does, and as Osaka did. Felix ran 21,81 in Osaka after sprinting 22,34 (+0,4) under a similar schedule in Indianapolis. Eugene's locale is losing weight as an argument. The men and women in the 100m have proven that one is able to at least duplicate in London the Eugene efforts in the sprints. Felix sprinting faster in London than in Eugene doesn't equate to having her legs dulled in the 200m final. She's even more rested now (peaking) than she was in Eugene. The London schedule actually benefits Felix more than it hurts her. She has no double-day 200m races.
Thank you!! I too agree with your factual info!! AF is going to run a time that we will remember for years to come....

Gabriella, I'm still trying to understand where these 21.5's and 21.7's are being ran at. SAFP can run whatever she want's in training, but what matters is what can be done on the track.... Maybe the person who started the "I heard that SAFP ran ... in practice" can share his source?

Yep.
Practice times are 21.5, with an excited coach, add the electronic time opportunity, and guarantee it was run down wind.
22.1 - 2 by the time you finish with it.
Still good at training, but hardly a mark worth considering.
Allyson looked SCAAAAAAAARY easy in her semifinal yesterday. I just can't shake the feeling that she's about to demolish the 200m final so savagely tonight that the mondo will catch on fire. Bring your gas masks!

She isn't that much faster....
We are talking about the 200 meters dude..... She ran 21.69 in June... She normally peaks at the Championships, so do I expect a faster time from her? Yes I do!! Unless of course, the weather is not ideal or an injury occurs (God forbid)........
Are you one of those guys who were saying that AF was not the one to beat at the 2012 OT? If so, I understand your plight. So please relax, and get ready for round 2 of what was accomplished by AF at the OT in June.....

I don't see it being as fast as her Trials performance... Do I see it as being fast? Yup!! Eugene times... and i don't just mean the US Trials, I'm also referring to the DL races there... are always amongst the best times the athletes run each year where the sprints are concerned. And most specifically for me... she had 4 days rest between the 100 and the 200... she only had one day of rest here. Not to say she won't run fast... but I don't see 10.6x
Despite the Eugene factor, Felix is definately sitting pretty on top, she was marvelous. However... HOWEVER, the presence of a Frazer Pryce kinda upsets the apple cart as it regards Felix Vs Richards Ross Vs Campbell Brown and how they are able to time and anticipate each other. That said, Felix will just have to run to make a PB and not race as too much uncertainty exists with a SAF and Jetter.

Very valid point about the Eugene times. My point is that she has never ran under 22 seconds in June, if I am not mistaken, so that is my rationale for her sub 21.6..... She has never looked so at ease and comfortable in a semifinal run, and her rounds look even easier than at the 2012 trials.. So, we will have to wait and see... However, since you were rooting for AF at the trials, I won't rub it in when she runs 21.5... We will just celebrate!!! I don't see it being as fast as her Trials performance... What's up with SAFP? She couldn't run as fast as she's apparently been running in practice.
Congrats to her on a great Olympic double, gold and silver, which is only diminished by the obsurd predictions and expectations of the flag-waiving Jamaicans.
well, much closer than I thought it would be, but still a good margin. As I thought, one race too many for SRR but I was surprised with SAFP, excellent run. I guess we can say at these Games the best female sprinter has been SAFP with gold and silver.
t_monk wrote:I told yall.... She isn't getting 21.6x.
As did I. People predicting 21.3 for Felix, especially coming off such a huge PR at the Trials, were nuts. Regardless, it's the gold that counts here. Congrats to Felix, whose strength overcame SAFP's speed.

Don't you think Felix deserves better than this post?
Felix's sixth sub-22,00, equals her 3rd-fastest career 200m (Stockholm, 2009). First season in Felix's storied career that she has twice broken 22,00 in the same season.
