nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)So if you do go ahead and cry Conor, does that make us both a wuss?
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)
How do you think he did? I thought he was pretty good. He's gone now, replaced by that former 110 meter hurdler guy. Colin somebody. Ferguson? But from the little I saw from Johnson today, I prefer him over Ato Boldon. Johnson wasn't shouting and feigning excitment for one thing. Correction: Johnson is still there. I think I just heard him comment on Kirani James.
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)
It has happened before. NBC sends them out to the various message boards to put a positive light on things NBC is doing. He can't fool me.
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)
Really? How much do they pay? I want my cut.
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)Kvetch, kvetch, kvetch. One gets what one pays for.
I doubt the number of people trying to watch the live stream comes even close to attendance at any pre-season NFL game. Sad, but true.
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)I watched from 2pm to 6:30pm live on BBC and there was absolutely no break for commercials.
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)
The Beeb is great, but I sure like all the individual event feeds on NBC. I like to watch every jump and throw and while the BBC eventually gets to the better performances and/or the "name" athletes, you still don't get to see it all. That said, I've got a sore neck from trying to watch four feeds at once and I've pretty much banned my wife from talking to me when the four ring circus is going full tilt.
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)
You're probably right, but at least all those people have seats assigned and they get to watch the game (unless they're going to Dallas for the SB).
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)
No, they are just "kindly" selecting the best entertainment package for the people who are too busy with their daily lives to know anything about any event. The viewers are supposed to be interested in what NBC decided to show during the prime time, because they built up the interest with the prerequisite "up close and personal."
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)
Of course they are not going to tell you when they are going to broadcast anything. The whole idea is for you to sit all all evening from 7pm to 12 midnight and watch everything so that ratings can increase. I wouldn't be surprised if they showed the mens 100m final with Bolt close to midnight. Thanks God for the internet and BBC for allowing us to watch everything live. Don't for a second think that NBC cares about you
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)I guess sarcasm is a difficult thing to convey on a message board.
But you will be surprised how many people are happy to be manipulated, I mean, "taken care of" by corporate interests. This way, they don't have to make any conscious decision.
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)
The only boycott that could change anything NBC does is an advertiser-led one. Unless you've got major pull with a GROUP of their advertisers, they won't care.
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)It is 11pm on the east coast and NBC still hasn't shown the mens 100m final.
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)NBC finally decided to show the race at 11:15.
At least, I have to give them a little credit. In 2008 Beijing, I think they showed the final at 11:45pm.
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)Damn, no audio on the NBC main feed this morning. Wonder why they fed us audio over the weekend and took it away today. Watching BBC feed for audio, but the video quality is very poor and the better NBC track feed is a couple minutes off the BBC feed.
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)Maybe it was the announcers' day off.
I'm wondering about the commercials too. I am running nbcolypics stream on Firefox with Adblock Plus and seeing zero commercials on the main track and field feed. It's possible the the Adblock is blocking them, but I don't see any possible transitions where they would be coming back from a commercial. I'm pretty sure that following the feed of the commercial channels will give you the commercials, but why would anyone do that?
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)
Now there's a good tip. Just added it and will be happy to watch without those annoying repetitive ads that force me to keep toggling the mute button.
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)
So that is where the commercials are coming from. Yea, just use Adblock Plus. Works great. I haven't seen one ad yet.
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)per the Michael Johnson mention as BBC 'pundit'. I have been surprised at how he has thoughtfully contributed to there efforts. He only slipped a few times in making self congratulatory statements about his accomplishments (no sarcasm intended - just the facts, which I think diminishes anyone's reporting). But I thought he was insightful and added to professionalism of the whole deal. And he didn't say the same thing over and over. He does, however, have that monotone delivery. Thumbs up from me.
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)
Puuurrrrrfect. I just downloaded Firefox and also downloaded the Adblock extension.ZERO COMMERCIAL NOW. YIPPPEEEEE Thanks alot man.
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)Is anyone having problems with the volume on nbc?
I am getting sound, but even with every sound setting at full blast on my computer, I can barely hear it. Thoughts or suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks.
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)
After listening to Ato Boldon, I LOVE monotone now! Boldon makes me nervous like too much Red Bull. No Michael Johnson comes across to me as serious, and professional. I no longer take those qualities for granted in televised sports.
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)Sprintzfan - do you have a link to the BBC online broadcast?
Would greatly appreciate any help you can give me in locating it. onyourmark
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)yep. I'll hook you up.
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)
Yes. Volume is low.
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)Thanks Daisy! I'm going to enjoy reading that.
Hey Conor Dary. Off hand what do you think is a good resource for me to read up on how the IOC handles the selling of the rights to the Olympic Games? Can you think of any particular good starting place? I was just going to peruse the Wikipedia for IOC first. I wanna get my facts straight, before the next time I argue with you and Bruce3404 over these issues.
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)sprintfanz, please send me the link as well.
i'm so freaking frustrated today. tried to catch the athletics from london on firstrowsports. the feed kept freezing, and also busy with work, so i missed all the finals. now i have to go home and watch 5 hours of pathetic nbc coverage to catch all the finals and semis or heats they deign to show us.
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)Should have watched it on NBC stream. Perfect all day
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)Yes. The only time I was annoyed by the frequent freezing was Sunday afternoon.
I even watched women's marathon on streaming over TV. I mean, NBC had Lindsey Vonn interview during the race. Maybe they should have a Flanagan interview during the women's downhill at the next Winter Games...
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)
Please hook me up too if you don't mind.
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)
Very good. Here is a start. "The I.O.C. made it clear to the networks that it wanted $2 billion for the 2010 and ’12 rights." http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/20/sport ... domir.html
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)
This may seem oversimplistic, but notice that there's a volume bar below the video. Use your mouse and slide the bar to the right while also making sure your computer volume is turned all the way up.
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)Got ya covered uakari and jazz. The link is on the way.
And uakari, read what has been said on this thread about playing nbcolympics/live extra on Firefox with the AdBlockerPlus add on. I just tried that a couple of hours ago, and it seems that live extra is playing better for me than ever. I haven't watched track yet this way, just some boxing and some of the USA Basketball game. And very little buffering so far, and NO COMMERCIALS at all that I noticed. So give that a try too if you haven't already. Thanks for the article link Conor.
Re: nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)
As if the IOC would really not award any US network the bid if the highest offered was "only" $1 billion...
