Re: 2012 OG: m400–The thinking must be that Merritt's injury must be serious?
Re: 2012 OG: m400–
Even if it wasn't, any lost training time is critical at this stage. I'm picking LM to win, but any loss of fitness will kill him in the final 50m of the final.
Re: 2012 OG: m400–Hope LM can pull through. Not only or the 400 but the relay takes a big hit with him off the team.
Re: 2012 OG: m400–I'm pulling for Nellum being the highest placed American.... Although I need James to bring home the gold with the Borlee brothers taking the other 2 medals....
Re: 2012 OG: m400–
Santos with the chance to add an Olympics medal to his World Juniors gold earlier this year. Is he the highest ranked of the current Juniors champs who participate in the Olympics?
Re: 2012 OG: m400–Someone else not on the formchart who shouldn't be taken lightly is Nery Brenes. He beat Santos last October and runs well at Championships. I still choose Santos to medal but Brenes could breakthrough.
Re: 2012 OG: m400–
Nijel Amos is ranked No.4 in the 800m.
Re: 2012 OG: m400–Olympic Record: 43,49, Michael Johnson, USA, Atlanta 1996
2008 Results: G-LaShawn Merritt, USA, 43,75; S-Jeremy Wariner, USA, 44,74; B-David Neville, USA, 44,80 ================================================================================
Re: 2012 OG: m400–I was somewhat surprised myself not to sww Nery Brenes listed among the ten favorites. He is one for the big occasion and should certainly be a finalist in London barring the unforeseen.
Re: 2012 OG: m400–Kirani James has the worst sprinting technique of any world class runner I can think of.
He actually looks worse this year than last. Bizarre. Merritt hands down if his hammy is ok. Will go with the Borlee's and Santos to be in the mix for medals.

Re: 2012 OG: m400–Anybody know the London bookie odds on Pistorius getting out of the qualifying round?
Online bookie williamhill.com was carrying a special line on Pistorius but has now dropped it. Either not enough betting, or too MUCH betting, or somebody got to them about political correctness. They have lines on every Olympic athletics event, including gold, or 'in the medals'. But the Pistorius special has been taken off the board.
Re: 2012 OG: m400–Round 1 about to begin.
Re: 2012 OG: m400–Santos and Pistourius finish 1,2. Oscar in the semis.
Re: 2012 OG: m400–Eurosport announcer makes it clear he disagrees with including Pistorius; interesting, don't hear that often from TV announcers.
Re: 2012 OG: m400–
Santos looking strong, cruises to 45.04.
Re: 2012 OG: m400–Renny quow dns....
Re: 2012 OG: m400–Does anybody know why Quow didn't start? Santos looking really impressive.
Re: 2012 OG: m400–
He wasnt running particularly well this year, but still very unfortunate. Also this wont bode well for their 4x4 if h is injured, they ran 3.00.45 earlier this year, possibly a medal threat. Last edited by ATK on Sat Aug 04, 2012 1:44 am, edited 1 time in total.
Re: 2012 OG: m400–
Santos looks very dangerous.
Re: 2012 OG: m400–Kirani James cruises to 45.23, looks even stronger than Santos.
Re: 2012 OG: m400–Kirani james 45.23
Ramon miller second 45.57
Re: 2012 OG: m400–
Wow! And he looked easy in the stretch.
Re: 2012 OG: m400–This is great watching the twins go back and forth with the NR over the years.
Re: 2012 OG: m400–Yikes! Borlee. SPEECH-LESS.
If that's the case.....the possible times for the final....
Re: 2012 OG: m400–...are mindboggling, but let's not forget that men's 400 has a history of fast times in the heats and semis followed by slow times in the finals. For instance, last year Merritt ran 44.35 in the heats. We know what happened in the final.
Re: 2012 OG: m400–Nellum looked tense, had to fight to place 2nd.
Re: 2012 OG: m400–Pinder with a relatively relaxed 44.92
Re: 2012 OG: m400–
Thought the exact same thing which is why I held back with any big statements. Originally I was going to say if that's the case we may see an under 44 PB for Borlee.
Re: 2012 OG: m400–Pinder....44.93
González way down.....
Re: 2012 OG: m400–
Exactly, new NR for J. Borlee; let's see what K. Borlee does in the last heat.
