nbcolympics.com streaming (USA)

Postby donley2 » Tue Jul 31, 2012 5:12 am

The streams did not work very well on Saturday, but worked much better for me (and others per at least one forum I visited) on Sunday. Has anyone noticed how soon some of the morning sessions (for instance swimming) have been archived and available. I can't see the site at work so I have not noticed. I am hoping to be able to actually sleep in a few days, but still be able to watch some of the morning action online before the live 2nd session begins.

I have watched both live and the archives each day, and haven't had any problems at all. As soon as the event finishes, it switches from live to archive immediately.

Keep in mind, though, that an "event" is usually a "session", such as what's going on Court #3 in badminton. So with the nature of athletics being a three-ring circus, I'm not sure that "Men's Pole Vault" will be treated as a separate event. There is no doubt that they are going to have multiple cameras in operation, however, and we'll be able to choose which camera to stream.

For some of the big name events, I read that the archive will be delayed until after the regular NBC broadcast. But I have not tested this.

Women's gymnastics was available archived well before NBC's prime time telecast, and in NBC's logic there is nothing bigger than women's gymnastics.
But you're right, I read the same thing a couple of weeks ago.

It(live streams) does seem much better today than the last few, which gives me hope they've ironed out the glitches. We will see how it responds to the massive influx of viewers for the womens team gymnastic finals later this morning.

I see that NBC are doing so badly for cash that on the West Coast they taped delayed by 6 hours the Opening Ceremony so as to maximise advertising income; they probably did not say sorry chaps its all over.No other country as far as we know did the same.Apparently 1pm to 5 pm does not make so much money

This info above was tweeted by the Independents newspaper correspondent via his twitter account and now those great freedom loving Merkans from the American Twitter people have cancelled his account to the disgust of many.

. Are NBC aware that there are quite a lot of other countries competing in events were there are no Americans.??

Que? How can that be? Every time I turn on the TV, it's all America, all the time!

I am sure they are aware, but don't really care. Nor should they. But they are streaming everything live, so what is the problem?

Why would NBC show the Opening ceremonies live?

Does anyone here know of a way to capture the livestream to computer? It's been a while since I've used this type of software, but I'm guessing that NBC hasn't made this easy to do. It would be nice to be able to have everything instead of just a couple of hours of editted coverage from the tape-delayed broadcast.

Perhaps there is a way for Americans to watch the BBC's coverage.

Why would they not; the rest of the world did!

Cos its normal and its right and cos it treats the viewers as intelligent ; NBC people who know only about the bottom line are one of the worst examples of so called TV coverage on the planet; NBCs stupid, money grubbingn narrow mindedness might suit you fans but most of us pray that the BBC, for all their faults, treat us to LIVE TV ; poor old Americans, do give us a call if there is an event with no Americans in it and we can tell you what happened.

Yesterday a friend from the States rang me to find out some results from certain events in the first few days cos it did not on the great NBC coverage. What a surprise!

Because the rest of the World gets the Olympics cheap, while the US TV subsidies the rest, for about $1.18 Billion.

The BBC is understood to have paid much more than the £60 million it paid for the London Olympic rights, but compared to other rights fees the IOC has extracted around the world, the fee is considered relatively light, by sources familiar with the negotiations.

The IOC has previously completed 2014-16 Olympic deals with France for £80 million, Germany for £120 million, Spain for £66 million and Italy for £141 million.

If you want money grubbing it is the IOC who have it down pat. NBC is losing money on the Olympics.

Without American TV loot, the Olympics would half the size, if that. So get off your high horse and remember that.

You mean without NBC overbidding because its execs are desperate for anything that people will watch. Look at how much higher NBC's bid for '16-'20 was than ABC/ESPN's. I mean, if NBC disappeared the moment the Olympics were over, would anyone notice? The suits at 30 Rock are quite aware of that, are terrified of losing the Olympics, and end up bidding far more than they're worth--and then muck up their presentation by trying to make back the foolish amount of money they spent.

i've tried the nbc streaming for volleyball, both live and archived, and it freezes a lot. i'm grateful there's a lot to watch, but often it gets so frustrating, i gave up.

uakari, my experience has been much better, though not perfect. I've been watching a bunch of replay stuff without any problems, until today, that is.

Yesterday I watched the rowing in its entirety. When I tried to watch the same replay today I just got repeated black screens without any video, despite several tries. I did a bunch of testing with live streams today in preparation for my 2:00 AM marathon session tomorrow. I clicked on a few only to see the same black screen. I tried several others and all worked well. I had three tabs open watching three different live streams concurrently. Of course, they were track cycling, fencing, and badminton, so the demand was probably pretty low. I cringe to think of what might happen tomorrow as I suspect track and field will see much more traffic.

The only thing worse than a complete system meltdown would be to have to watch Bob Costas et al on NBC "prime time"! I'd much rather watch old re-runs of Green Acres.

They stopped USA-Brazil volleyball match at the beginning of the fourth set and switched to some beach volleyball. There was no way to get it back. I worry what might happen with T&F coverage.

Okie doke NBC, I'm giving your live stream first shot tomorrow morning. But make no mistake - if it buffers even ONCE I have about 15 international feeds lined up and ready for action. Don't disappoint me :P

There are tonnes of other online websites that are also broadcasting the Olympics. Make sure you have your alternatives handy.

I've been watching the British Eurosport feed on links at http://www.sportlemon.tv They have shown what seems to be an endless loop of swimming-watching races they had shown 60-90 min. prior. The site has been providing 7-8 that are just general links and then they provide some links which indicate a specific sport that seem to be only available, if at all, when the event is going live though others might have had a different experience.

Hopefully track will receive the same treatment as in play....replay....

cladthin's link is a pretty good resource. Once the meet starts that site will populate with several track-specific Olympic links

Well, so far no complaints with the NBC feed. Currently watching in 1080 with no problems. At this point no announcers, just the raw video feed, which isnt necessarily a bad thing.
