Re: 2012 OG: m50kW–
Let's see . . . I think I'll go with . . . Schwazer. (as if I knew ANYTHING about the event)
Re: 2012 OG: m50kW–
Schwazer is out. EPO. http://www.gazzetta.it/Olimpiadi/06-08- ... 2919.shtml
Re: 2012 OG: m50kW–Fave gets EPO bootAbsolutely no surprise here. Hopefully they retest his samples from 08 on, as most people w/in the event suspected him even then. Tallent deserves the Gold from Beijing.
Re: 2012 OG: m50kW–
or not . . . sigh.
Re: 2012 OG: m50kW–Fave gets EPO boot
Why no surprise? I only follow race-walking at the major championships so I'm not too clued up. I never thought of Schwazer as being a doper but then again, I didn't give it much thought. Last edited by nevetsllim on Tue Aug 07, 2012 2:34 am, edited 1 time in total.
Re: 2012 OG: m50kW–Fave gets EPO boot
I don't remember him ever failing a test, nor Bakulin. Yerokhin did though (in 2008, I think the same time as Kanaykin and Burayev).
Re: 2012 OG: m50kW–Fave gets EPO boot
Actually, I don't think he has so I edited my post. It's hard to keep up with which Russian walkers have been busted.
Re: 2012 OG: m50kW–Fave gets EPO bootWAKE UP, folks!!!
The 2012 London Olympic Games 50K Walk for Men is about to begin!!! Twenty minutes from NOW!! "Walk on......through the rain........walk onnnnnnnn!!"
Re: 2012 OG: m50kW–Fave gets EPO bootI'm watching... it's like watching a championship marathon but twice as long and many times as dramatic towards the end - which favorites will totally run out of energy around 40 km this time?
Re: 2012 OG: m50kW–Fave gets EPO bootI'm watching on the SportLemon link......the BBC.
But they're going to go back and forth from the walk to canoeing and other stuff....only coming back for the final 40 minutes or so of the walk!!! They just cut out after 35 minutes, with a group of 12 leading....including Kirdyapin, Deakes, and Barrondo (20K Silver). Wish they'd show the whole thing!!! (EDIT) They came back for awhile. The 10K split was 44:15. The 1st 5K was 22:12, so the 2nd 5K was 22:03!! Still a dozen or so leading, including 3 Russians, Australians (Tallent and Deakes), Barrondo, and a few others. Haven't seen American Nunn yet. Looking for a red uniform!!!
Re: 2012 OG: m50kW–Fave gets EPO bootYou can follow live splits here.
Nunn is currently in 58th and walking at 3:58 pace. His PB is 4:04:41...
Re: 2012 OG: m50kW–Fave gets EPO bootRight! The 50k walk is one of my favorite events
Re: 2012 OG: m50kW–Fave gets EPO boot15K in 1:06:01, with a group of 11 within 2 seconds of each other.
Next group is 35 secs back. 5K splits so far are: 22:12 22:03 21:46.
Re: 2012 OG: m50kW–Fave gets EPO bootGo Aussies!
*and Bakulin for my (half-baked) tipping predictions
Re: 2012 OG: m50kW–Fave gets EPO boot
Are you sure you don't mean Phillip Dunn?? Dunn's best, according to my FAST Annual, is 3:56:13. John Nunn's best, again according to FAST, is 4:14:16, from 2007. Nunn is the one walking today!!! And he's on about 3:56 or 3:57 pace, as of 20K!! His 10K's were 47:33, then 47:07. IF he keeps up the same pace (at 20K), he'll walk 3:56:40!!! The leaders, meanwhile, passed at a sub-3:40 pace, and MIGHT get the OR of 3:37:09!!! (I think they're WALKING faster than the women RAN in yesterday's 1500!!!
Re: 2012 OG: m50kW–Fave gets EPO bootNunn walked 4:04:41 at US 50k walk OT in January. Incidentally, he did eventually get some TV time as he was lapped 1:53 into the race. If you're lucky they can lap him again before the finish
Re: 2012 OG: m50kW–Fave gets EPO boot
Thanks!! The FAST goes through end of 2011!! But he's still on PR pace. He passed 25K in 1:58:29. Double that, and you have 3:56:58. His last 10K was 47:28. But his last 5K was at slightly slower pace, a 23:49. Even if he slows to 24:00 5K's the rest of the way, his final time would be 3:58:29, a 6 minute PR!! Who cares if he's 57th out of 60 left in the race??
Re: 2012 OG: m50kW–Fave gets EPO bootBarrondo and Bakulin came through 30K in 2:10:49, with their last 5K in 21:28!!
Definitely on OR pace!!!
Re: 2012 OG: m50kW–Fave gets EPO bootNunn came through 30K in 2:22:48.
He's slowing!! Last 5K was only 24:19!! Still on sub-4:00 pace!! 57th out of 59 walkers!! The leaders should be coming through 35K soon!! (EDIT) Si Tianfeng of China moves to the front with a 21:09 last 5K!!!! Came through 35K in 2:32:16. Bakulin 2nd, but took 21:33 for his last 5K!! If he doesn't foul out, Tianfeng WILL shatter the OR!!!
Re: 2012 OG: m50kW–Fave gets EPO bootLi Jianbo and Heffernan are going really fast now... if they keep this up they can medal.
Re: 2012 OG: m50kW–Fave gets EPO bootNunn passed 35K in 2:48:10.
His last 10K was 49:41. His last 5K was 25:22....so he's slowing!! So his sub-4:00 is GONE!!! IF he keeps steady at 25:22 per 5K, he'll finish in 4:04:16. Still 2 guys behind him!!! Leader(s) should be coming through right about.....NOW!! Kirdyapin back in lead (1 second!!) at 40K in 2:53:53!! Heffernan in 8th 48 seconds back!! BBC coming back on now with the walk....so this is my last report!!! Go John Nunn!!!!!
Re: 2012 OG: m50kW–Fave gets EPO bootOR for Kirdyapin!!!
3:35:59!!! Tallent gets Silver. (EDIT) Still waiting to see if Nunn gets a PR!! It's gonna be VERY close!!! His PR is 4:04:41. If his last 5K matches his 5K between 40 and 45K, he'll finish 19 seconds ahead of his PR!!
Re: 2012 OG: m50kW–Fave gets EPO boothas barron ever done a 50k or is he too young??
Re: 2012 OG: m50kW–Fave gets EPO bootPersonal Record for John Nunn!!!
4:03:28!! Now 12th best American at 50K. Ended in 43rd place. He'd been as far back as 58th, but steadily moved up as several were DQ'ed or DNF'ed. Still about 7 or 8 behind him!! Lots of other PR's and a few NR's too!!
Re: ¶2012 OG: m50kW–Sergey Kirdyapkin (Russia) 3:35:59 OROnce again, a very interesting 50 km race because of different race tactics and different people suffering at different times. The 50 km really punishes even the best in the world if they start too fast. I think went somehow like this
- Pace started off very fast, the likes of Kirdyapkin and Si were dropped a bit by the leaders that included Diniz and Deakes by 25 km - Si came back and surged at around 30 km from the already fast pace, getting a 20 second gap looking like he would win. Chasing group still had Diniz, the two Russians and the young Guatemalan Barrondo. Tallent and Kirdyapkin looked like they were out of it, and Deakes started suffering - Kirdyapkin was going steadily but came back to the chasing group when he seriously upped his pace 30 to 35 km, and then soon caught up with leader Si and went to lead, trying to break free. Others tried to hang on, including the increasingly tired looking Si. Diniz bonked at this point and it looked like a Russian 1-2-3 for a moment. But Si was able to hang on and one of the Russians (Erokhin) started to fall back. Tallent started coming back too. - While Kirdyapkin was still 10-15 seconds ahead, Tallent passed the others and tried to catch Kirdyapkin. Bakulin fell away from Si, who was grimacing badly. Barrondo bonked, fell back very quickly, and was so tired he couldn't even keep up his technique and got DQd. Heffernan and Li were starting to come back into the picture - Kirdyapkin unleashed the fastest 5 km of the race from 45 to 50, to keep well ahead of Tallent. Most impressive, and made it clear who was best today with a great new OR time. - At the end, there was still some excitement if Heffernan could come back for the bronze - Si was suffering but managed to hold on and had his knee iced immediately after the finish. In the end, the third Russian Erokhin, who had already fallen back much earlier, apparently recovered and had a very good last 5 km, and almost beat Heffernan for 4th.
Re: ¶2012 OG: m50kW–Sergey Kirdyapkin (Russia) 3:35:59 ORWell, you cannot see a lot of events you want in full, but this one, taped by me but watched in the morning played out step by step. The commentary was pretty good, the camera work stressed by not having enough cameras to cover a spread-out field where not being at the front did not mean that you were out of it.
They covered the women's race similarly.
Re: 2012 OG: m50kW–Fave gets EPO boot
Trevor's not yet 20, but the 50 may be in his future should he decide to keep competing.
