Yup... Seems like those 400's payed off... I wonder if they'll put her on the 4x400... and more importantly... can she carry this over to the Olympics?

Crazy good results from Russia (even many of them can't probably be replicated at the Olympics). Still, can't wait for the olympics, since the world list results are getting really good this year.

first, it is unrealistic to think that us will win 30 medals in track and field in london. the russian championships however have little if any bearing on the us medal count. a lot of the events russia is strong in, the us isnt (for example the women's field events) and a lot of the events the us is strong in, russia isn't (sprints and hurdles). the exception is the women's 400, but i dont think any of the russians will run as fast in london as they did in their own back yard.

Some statistics in the wake of Russian championship 2012.
I have all-time spreadsheet 2.30m and above.
I put the filter conditions "Show all events is 6" in the column space.
The result was a list of 18-th competitions.
I then calculated the average for the first 6 athletes in each competition.
Here's what happened as a result.
1 WC1993 2,3600
2 OG1988 2,3567
3 WC1987 2,3550
4 WC1995 2,3517
5 Mus1993 2,3500 Eberstadt
6 OG1996 2,3450
7 NC2012 2,3433 6 over 2.31
8 Mus1995 2,3417 Eberstadt
9 WC1997 2,3383
10 GG2005 2,3383
11 OG2004 2,3367
12 OG1992 2,3350
13 WC11 2,3300
14 EC98 2,3200
15 WK1998 2,3167
16 Mus1992 2,3100
17 NC2008 2,3050 8 over 2.30
18 Mus2008 2,3000 Eberstadt
19 ALL 18 Avr. 2,3352
Not a bad advertisement for Russia's high-jump in the period 2008-2012?
What other country can boast of so?

Maybe spredshit is a derivative of the straddle technique.

Blame your favorite Google.
I have written in Russian "спредшит", and he translated automatically.
In the modern Russian language a lot of Anglicisms (English words written by Russian letters, as they are heard in English).
I just have not checked, as usual, and that's what happened.
My apologies, and for Google, too.
Thanks for the comment, I corrected.

We knew that, just couldn't resist a chance to laugh about it, in this particular case where the awkward computer translator result happens to also have an alternate meaning in English.

I've just watched these races and i am so confused ever who these people are :?

In the 400 Krivoshapka has changed her hair totally, i know Guschina, no idea who came 3rd but i know Nazarova. In the 1500 i only know the old school, Tomashova, Sobelova, Yevdokimova, who are the top 2 ??

Whoever won 1500 seems to be going out with Steve Hooker, he's over the moon on twitter

I'm surprised you don't know Kostetskaya. Former world junior 400m hurdles champion, fifth over 800m at the world champs last year and an Olympian in Beijing.

And her mother Olga Dvirna (EC at 1500m, PB of 3-54.23 pus 1-56.9 for 800m) father Aleksandr Kostetskiy (1-45+ 800m) and her bf an Olympic/World Champ.

With Steve's own parents Erica (6.58m LJ) and Bill (50.6 400H & 1-45+ 800m) having some good genes themselves, I'm hoping for a bunch of talented Aussie kids in about 20-25 years :)

My post dissapeared! Can any of the experts on this board tell whether or not the womens 400 meter times are trustworthy? I just checked Guchina iaaf page and she had a pb of 51.xx before the trials. I know Krivoshapka can be fast even though she never runs those crazy times at championships. Whats going on?

Gushchina ran a 50,01 PB for fourth in Beijing in 2008, noted on her IAAF bio.

There has been some considerable scepticism about the Russian performances in their Trials; I wonder if they consider it strange that Chelsea Hayes with her 7 metres plus in the OT, last year could not make better than 6.50 in the LJ acc to the stats and the previous year well down on that as her seasons best.

Alan, have you given that one a go? Type in your word, hit 'space', and your Cyrillic equivalent appears. It's not a translator, but a transliteration agent which enables your Russian words, spelled in English, to be transliterated into Russian. For example: Krasiva [space] becomes красива. Алёша Второй resulted from Alyosha Vtoroy.
