Krivoshapka looked mightily impressive. She jogged the final 30m of her SF and still went 50.08. I think she'll go low-49 tomorrow. Firova went faster in the second SF with a 49.78 PB but fastest with Gushchina with 49.58 which I think is a PB too.

The women's 400 results haven't come up on my PC yet on the usual link to the results from rusathletics.com .

The men's ones are already in though! Trenikhin, Alekseyev and Dyldin won the semis with 46.04, 46.06 and 45.87.

I really hope these girls can show this form at the olympics because they are looking very sharp

1:58.17 victory for Poistogova in the 800m from Arzhakova. A bit of an anti-climax after the heats. I was expecting 1:56.

Chicherova was very close at 2.08m! She was smiling after her attempt. She knows she has it in her.

Mariya Savinova PR'd in the 400 heats at 51.43; she is listed for the 3rd semi, but I expect she will skip it. Or not.

Why is it always the 400 that sticks in my mind as the most ridiculous times?

Guschina runs a half second PB at the age of 29 in a SEMI of a national championships? There's something wrong somewhere, believe me...

Sometimes statistics lie. Going 158 at the us trials and running 159 at the big meet is somewhat of a letdown but running 156 and then going 202 is a Letdown with a capital L. It is the magnitude of disparity that is the fact that people here are pointing out. of course there are some russians like zaripova, chicerova and ambukhomova who perform well at both meets.

When did Krivoshapka ever run a 51 in a major championship?

It seems that that it was good performances from Firova (49.76) and Guschina (49.56) in the semis.

The full SF results are there, they're just not very easy to read because they've been listed by lane as oposed to actual result. I've listed the result by position below. Women in bold made the final:

Semi 1
KRIVOŠAPKA ANTONINA - 50.05
ANASTASIA KAPAČINSKAÂ - 50.62

USTALOVA KSENIYA - 51.80
MOLGAČEVA LILY - 52.99
PERÂKOVA NATALIA - 53.15
ANASTASIA GRIGOREVA - 53.59
YAGUPOV ANNA - 53.59
LYUDMILA MOCHALINA - 54.07

Semi 2
TATIANA FIROVA - 49.76
VDOVINA KSENIYA - 50.43
ELENA MIGUNOVA - 50.91

VUKOLOVA EKATERINA - 52.55
KARNAUŜENKO MARINA - 53.23
VOLHA TOVARNOVA - 53.34
DOKANEVA ANGELICA - 53.56
KSENIA ZADORINA - DNS

Semi 3
GUSHCHINA YULIA - 49.56
NATALYA NAZAROVA - 50.00
LYUDMILA LITVINOVA - 50.61

VEŠKUROVA TATYANA - 52.21
MAL′VINOVA CHRISTINA - 52.37
YELENA VOYNOVA - 53.39
SHESTAKOVA EKATERINA - DNF
MARIYA SAVINOVA - DNS

Krivoshapka clearly had the easier heat and semi, so you would expect her to be fresher for the final. Firova and Guschina appear to have run unneccesarily fast, but I guess it depended on how the race went & if their opponents went out hard.
An interesting point is all the top familiar names ran faster in the semi than the heat, where as virtually all the lesser names ran faster in the heat than the semi.
In recent years, Nazarova has often run a good semi and not so good final; yes 50.00 is her best for 8 yrs, but I wonder whether she has another fast one in her? I'd expect Krivoshapka to win and it'll be interesting to see whether Guschina and Firova are down on their semi times.

Just reviewing the LJ results, 4th placer Kucherenko (6.81) was the only one to get all six jumps and had a solid, consistent series with 3 jumps in the 6.7+ range. On the other hand, 3rd placer Kolchanova had few valid jumps.
1st placer Sokolova's second best jump was 6.94, better than anyone else and also had a 6.7+ jump so deserves her selection. Nazarova was also consistent with some 6.8's, so again deserves her place, but I would definitely take Kucherenko over Kolchanova based on form in recent years.
Most of Kilishina's jumps were around 6.5 but that 6.81re-affirms her potential when not injured. Last years champ Zaitseva, who went over 7m then, qualified for the final with a 6.48, but come the final had two no jumps and a 5.92 to come last.

So....Krivoshapka 49.18 WL eh?

With two RUS women now at least as fast as Sanya in 2012, it looks like we have a relay contest...

Krivoshapka 49.16
Guschina 49.28
Firova 49.82
Nazarova 50.07
Kapachinskaya 50.37

Amazing season she's having.....

With a PB of 65.55 from 2006, she's improved that five times (in three competitions) this year..

Of course, she had a long holiday after 2007...

But now she's the first woman to throw over 70m in what - about 15 years?

Lysenko 77.37 1st throw...

Pishchalnikova's 70.69 is the odd-cm WR... all longer throws having been measured with 2cm accuracy.

Longest throw in 20 years... the only other 70.xx efforts since '92 have been Sadova's 70.02 in '99 and Xiao Yanling's 70.00 in '97. (pela2)

But only the 115th best performance of all time (not counting ancillary throws)... goes to show how much this event regressed after 1988.

The most important question: Will the Russian federation ignore be blinded by the NC results and not nominate Klishina for London? Just because she jumped a few silly cms less than others? I strongly urge them to decide in favour of beauty.

1500 heats (2 + 4)
H1
Yevdokimova 4:04.45
Soboleva 4:04.46
Khaleyeva 4:04.48 q

H2
Martynova 4:01.62 !
Zaripova 4:01.70 (steeple WC)
Tomashova 4:01.76 q (former WC 15)
Konovalova 4:09.17 q

H3
Chizhenko 4:06.72 (remember her? DQ'd in Paris 15 for knocking Jamal)
Gorbunova 4:08.57
Micheyeva 4:08.93 q

H4
Kostetskaya 4:09.75 (800 specialist, WC finalist)
Podosenova 4:10.25 (sub-4 earlier)

Should be quite a final! Zaripova is just in it for speed work.

I recall when Tomashova beat Ayhan in Paris; man, was Ayhan pissed! Tomashova also finished 2nd to Kelly Holmes in Athens, then won the "sweep" in Helsinki, when Chizhenko was DQ'd. She was a hell of a RACER. It seems unlikely she could reach that form again, however.

In HT, 5 over 72 meters, Lysenko 78.51Khanafeyeva 76.04.
