That's cool.. How does it compare to Blake's 9.84 in 0.5 wind? I think that is definitely more relative.
Blake's 9.84 with a 0.5 wind is still highly superior.
How much is "highly" I'm sorry, I do not know about the conversions of these things. Asafa also had a 9.85 with 0.6 wind. I would think if Blake's time is better basic then so would Asafa's..?
I'm not a huge believer in wind conversion tables for times that are under the allowable 2.0 limit because at some point I think we're talking about a difference that's so negligible it might as well not even exist.
However, for those perspective sake, those into that sort of thing might argue that Gatlin's 9.80 with a +1.8 would equate to about a 9.89, while Bolt's 9.76 into a -0.1 in Roma would equate to about a 9.75. That might suggest that Gatlin would still have a bit of work to do before London, which I'm sure he will have no problem putting in.

"relay killer Doc Patton" ran 9.96 today..

This man's work is unparalleled in this field.
How do you know he will be an alternate? I would say there are others that are far more suited to be on the relay.

I think the sponsor is his choice. Its one of those Asian sports companies forgot the name. Similar to Lining that sponsors Christian Taylor, Asafa Powell, Yelena Isinbayeva, etc.

Unless both Gay and Gatlin are doing the 200m (or sudden injury), there's no need for alternates come the 4x100 rounds.
Gatlin and Bailey are both running the 200M. The relay pool is going to be the top 6, which is usually how it's done. Patton is also well liked among the USATF athletes and many feel sorry for him, so the temptation will be to let him have a chance to redeem himself.
Of course that will result in another mishap and DQ...

I'm laughing so hard right now.
I think his goal is to one day somehow DQ an entire 8 team relay field singlehandedly.
Yeah, I seem to remember that poster, Notorious (who we coincidently haven't heard from since about exactly the same time that another frequent Jamaican-sprints-poster showed up), stating that Jeter "barely" beat Baptist in Kingston with 10.81 vs 10.86. It's interesting how diverse the opinions on these types of things can be between some posters .

Feel free to change your moniker...
You really should feel dumb.
Not at all. I wasn't far off. Rodgers was 4th and almost got in. Gatlin did look terrible in the semi's, but obviously did better (maybe his roids kicked in)

9.80 (1.8) = 9.89 (0.0) 9.84 (0.5) = 9.87 (0.0)
*Highly* superior....
Gatlin's 9.80 was at about 125 meters higher altitude than Blake's 9.84 from the Cayman Islands too, which some conversion tables count as worth another 100th... So we're looking at a possible difference of about 0.03 sec in favor of Blake assuming that the timing, wind measurements, and other standards at the first annual Cayman Islands Invitational were equally accurate to those at the US Olympic Trials... And even if the difference increases from 0.02 sec to 0.03 sec based on altitude, I'm not sure how "highly superior" 0.03 seconds is...

I'm actually a little surprised at how many folks on here think Gatlin has a chance at gold. He can definitely medal but gold? I think that's a reach we have to wait till JA trials to see what the other main rivals have to offer.

Blah blah blah
Not sure what you mean... Your man of never ending nics Jamaica50/notorious/Jammmin/RubyNoon, etc. made the comment that Blake's 100 in George Town was highly superior to Gatlin's performance today. A few of us called him out regarding his typical "highly superior" description, so I'm not sure what your point is, unless of course you're yet another of notorious' nics in which case I fully understand... THANK YOU! It seems like when one of these people is actually presented with a valid arguement against their claims they have some sort of laughable excuse, or another new poster pops up who shares their sentiments? I have been following this forum for years before I actually was able to create an acct. (computer problem I'm still not sure why) and it seems like since then the anti US men's sprint posters have been at an all time high.
It is truly sad to read these negative, classless, anti-American comments coming from some of you Jamaicans fans, clearly jaded close to madness with your Nationalism.
Jeter barely won and has no chance in London against the same ladies she spanked just last year. Gatlin ran a "terrible" 9.80 and is clearly juicing again.
The recent success of the Jamaican sprinters(whom I truly enjoy watching perform) has obviously brought out the worst in some of you people.
folks, regarding the quality of the 100 meter times, keep in mind that the weather was very cool (too cold) for world class sprinting. it was mid-60s, not sufficiently warm for high quality sprinting.
so, yes a 1.8 helps, but they did it in chilly conditions after after two rounds in even colder (and wetter) weather.
given this, 9.80, 9.86 and 9.93 are excellent marks.
too bad about Dix. hope he recovers fast.
the fact that Tyson produced a 9.86 (in cool conditions) after so few races is IMPRESSIVE.
give him warmer weather and 4-5 weeks of more sharpening and he can drop into the 9.60s.
everyone talks about how Tyson didn't do any track work until March, but obviously he has years of world class training behind him and apparently he hit the weight room much harder this year during his slow rehabilitation process. It's not as if the guy wasn't training - he's got massive base work behind him, he's clearly stronger than ever (in terms of absolute strength - from heavier weight training), and he's no where near 100% race sharp.
he will contend in London.
weather you folks like it or not, so will Gatlin. I think Gatlin's story is now inspiring and we can only assume he's clean.

I am new to the site and thus don't have a clue who these other posters are. I can only assume they are strong Jamaican supporters just as I am .
