Someone mentioned it already in the 100h thread, Queen Harrison doubling in both hurdle events; better chance to make the team in the 400h, though.

I would have picked Harrison over Williams to make the team in this event.

This is Tiffany Williams first event in how long?

Williams has a 55.16 from May and a 55.01 in june.
But I would also probably pick Harrison to make this team.

If Harrison makes the team, she'll be the only holdover from the 2008 trio of Harrison, Williams and Sheena Tosta (who has been MIA from the track over the last few years).

Demus had her leg wrapped in Europe so what is her status?

I'm sure she'll be fine... She should be far enough ahead of everyone to make top 3... Which is what is most important right now.

Whatever happened to Sheena Tosta? We last saw her at the Penn Relays last year.

Wow Queen Harrison luckily the last qualifier on time. Wonder if she hit a hurdle.

If she did I missed it. Brown looked good in that heat, could relax in the end. Not sure what was going on with Harrison; if I remember correctly she seemed to slow down running the turn, and then wasn't able to catch up on the homestretch.

Heavy rehabbing of a hammy can get one ready for one race, but rounds present a problem. I can't believe she's in shape for a 53.x (of which she has many in her career) in the final. Nice if she were!

She ran 55.29 in the first round. Not so bad for her to start off right?

Why was Queen Harrison's flinch a false start but Solomon and Lolo's flinches not? Nevermind Lolo, Solomon flinched on the same day. I don't believe anyone's foot came off the blocks and defining a flinch is somewhat subjective...no?

Some consistency would be nice. :?

Queen Harrison shouldn't have been DQed for a false start, and the DQ was correctly overturned; not that it mattered much.

Why are they not calling false starts at this meet unless they are 100% blatant?
I do want to see these athletes run, but they would usually call those flinches as false starts...

thanks jam.

ATK, its my belief that we don't want our own officials to strike potential Olympic medals from the team.

Great strategy USATF! :D

Some idiot nation somewhere will though and it will hand us a medal. :D

I thought this when Lolo flinched and now I'm convinced. It reminded me of AF's flinch at Pre last year in the 400m.

If someone flinches the rest of these trials they shouldnt even think about firing a gun since it will only disrupt the athlete's focus even more. An athlete who flinches and resets is usually in trouble anyway.

as i recall i posted after the Pac-12 that the thing that impressed me most of all in that meet was Moline. She--despite her fubar in Des Moines--has done nothing here to dispel that feeling.

So Queen Harrison is out. That's disappointing.

How did Tiffany Williams do?

Had the lead halfway through her semi, slowed down on the homestretch and finished second. Looked more like she was fading and not like she was relaxing, though. Based on prelims and semis, the favorites should be Demus, Brown, and Moline.

Brown and Moline easily make the team, same tactic as in semis: Brown starting strong, Moline starting slower and then running strong in the last 150m.

great performances by Demus and others to make the team.

what's up with the braces?

seems to have them off and on over the years.

back in the 80s and 90s a lot of track athletes were wearing braces.

I agree.. I saw Queens alleged false start, which was almost identical to Solomon's...

Similar aspersions where cast on some (very good) Jamaican sprinters a couple of years ago (mostly or entirely female athletes). These runners did not have rich parents when they were 12-years old when it seems that many if not most girls in the US now get braces. Now that they can afford them they get braces because appearances can matter (and affect sponsorship money in some cases I strongly suspect).

The aspersions arise from connections some make between drugs (HGH most often, I think) and bone growth so that braces are 'needed' to keep the teeth straight. Save the aspersions for rich kids who could/did have braces as budding teens. If you do not know enough then shut up and read the board's policy on drug accusations. [and no, I have NO problem with lilwayne or notlef, but it seems that those making aspersions have raised questions on others, although I have been speed-reading threads to catch up from a week out during the Trials]

Agreed that we don't want to go down that path on this board. In this particular case, however, the braces, having appeared off/on over many years (perhaps a medical condition), do raise questions.

Sometimes they are to improve breathing, I think Jana Pittman had them for a while to deal with an asthma issue.
