What's going on with Sherone Simpson?

I know she has been having a couple of rough years since 09 but I thought that her 51.42 in Jan indicated that she was heading in the right direction. I know she cramped up in a 400 meter about a month ago. Does anyone know if that was an injury? She is really underperforming so far this year with 11.28 and 11.22. If we are not seeing front end speed I hope we at leas see some sort of speed endurance in the 200 tomorrow.

Simpson had an injury scare this year when she stopped running after 300m in a 400m race in Kingston.

Simpson has had numerous surgeries over the years.

Well i believe these injures and surgeries are creating a mental block and she just needs to put them behind her in the starting blocks an push her way to the finish line and there is no comparison between williams and Simpson. Sherone as far more talent than what meets the eye.

You of all people should know the difference between talent and opportunistic success a.k.a luck. There is a really good female 400 meter runner who has yet to win an olympic gold medal but is probably the best in the world for the last five years. She is clearly the most talented but unfortunately not the most successful. You may have heard of her.

BTW Sherone has more talent than Lauryn Williams by a mile. If the olympics was held in 2006 it would have been clear to everyone. Running 10.82 into a hurricane is not lightwork.

Don't know what has happened to both her and Kerron. They can't even seem to break 11sec anymore. They need to be in at least 2008 form for us to even sniff gold in the 4x100m.

Then again, I was thinking the same about Shelly a couple weeks back and she blew me away in NY. Here's to hoping Sherone and Kerron have similar results.

I wasn't confused, friend. My statement acknowledged both Simpson's talent and Williams' success. Then you clarified that success and talent are different-true-but I've never argued against that. Read your statement about success/talent and then my self quoted post that follows...they essentially say the same thing. Only...I typed mine first.

To the point...there's no comparing these two but not just because someone thinks Sherone is more talented, another reason is because Lauryn's had much more success.

I take exception with the notion that Sherrone was becoming someone's Lauryn (indicating some type of failure). Seems folk have forgotten how many national teams Lauryn has made and her medal count.

Most sprinters would LOVE to have had the global success of a Lauryn Williams, who knows...Sherone may be included. So we can project all we want about someone's "talent" but success is conclusive.

I have a different reason than you but my WHOLE POINT was that Sherone doesn't = Lauryn.

Jokers be typing smack, but they can only dream about Sherone being their "Lauryn."

Therefore, our talent DOES NOT equal success equation looks like this:

Lauryn > Sherone.

Sanya doesn't fit your analogy because she's achieved a level of success (WC, AR, AOYx2, etc) that journeyman athletes like Sheron can only dream about. I don't care if Sherone once ran 10.82 in the heart of a Siberian blizzard...uh...just stop it. No. The only thing Sherone has done consistently...over a period of time is...not sustain that level of performance.

If you want to discuss Xman or someone else who has immense talent, run a few fast times but for whatever reason had trouble doing it consistently...lets talk.

As for the whole "400m runner who has yet to win an olympic gold medal blah blah blah" well, a lot of people who are the best at what they do have "yet to win an olympic gold medal" and some never will. In my mind, Sanya only has one missed opportunity in 08 and she was given the bronze for her effort. But its not like the opportunity comes along weekly.

Yes, I agree that was a problem. The atmosphere didn't allow for full disclosure of relevant information regarding both athletes and was condescending in Lauryn's direction.

So the intent of my post was to clarify the situation in its entirety and to put to bed the foolish notion that Sherone's failures could put her in the same sentence with Lauryn.

The TRUTH is neither her successes nor her failures could do that. Therefore the analogy was poor from the beginning.

I am very happy with Sherone 11.01 and 4th place finish. It shows she is peaking slowly and was being cautious all season but three great women were just better. She should be able to make it in the 200 meters especially if either Kerron or Shelly don't run.

Kerron Stewart cannot be counted out. It is going to be quite a race for that third spot.
