Doubt aint a big enough word.
As much as I adore and respect SRR, there is absolutely nothing in her career record which remotely hints at at a successful double. I hope she can handle the rounds in the 400 - but adding in another slew of rounds in the 200 and coming out on top? That would be a SRR we've yet to see. 22.09 is actually a miniscule improvement on her old PR, and in a one-off race.... you think she can run rounds AFTER the 400 and beat the likes of VCB and Felix? Not very likely...
I guess we'll see.
But if she wins the 400, there's nothing to lose by entering the 200.
I suppose success is how one qualifies or quantifies it.
One gold and one silver or bronze > One silver and one bronze

It's the Olympic sprint queen (you know the one with all the medals) VCB that the games are for
Yes that would surprise me as I happen to believe different that they do care what the other is doing. Go back and look at the timing of some decisions and you'll see what I mean.
As for VCB, I'm a fan. I would never turn my back on her the way some Jamaicans did when she didn't make the 100m team in Beijing and SAF became their new darling. Even trying to relegate her to an unfamiliar leg on the relay.Never.
That was sad and for the first time, I understood why Merlene didnt feel appreciated--oh well, out with the old and in with the new.
But, anyway, these games are for the Starchild (SRR). When the Mothership makes connection.

Or just one gold.
I agree - unlike Felix, whose flagship event is 2nd, nothing to lose. And SRR almost certainly wont 4x1 duty to consider.
You're probably right about the 4x1 but I hope you're wrong. When we lost Corvette to pregnancy, no Muna Lee and then Sanya drops a 10.8 and a 22 flat and doesnt get significant consideration...politics may be at play.

Comments from the relay czar on our FB group indicate strongly it's BK come hell or high water. Knight better pray she makes that 100 final or his hand might be forced

Actually, she did jog the 4x400 heats at the 2009 World Championship. I think she split 56 on her leg. It was funny to watch. Credit her teammates for putting her in a position to do that.
True.
And in the final she gets the stick with the same type lead well out front, like 15 meters.
And what does she do?
Running all...by...her...self...
She BLASTS a 48.4, the fastest of the competition, and turns a huge lead into ridiculously obnoxious.

She didnt pull out, but there was definitely something hinky going on with her stride in Beijing
Yea I definitely remember that hitch in her step, but even then, I mean she ran , and ran fast that entire year. 8 years of no missteps(pun!) due to injury at the pro level is pretty amazing!
Actually she's always run with a hitch-before and after Beijing. At times its more pronounced than others and 2008 it was more visible.

I know how much you love Sanya but sometimes the words you type are just crazy. Lol.

Check the record.
You're only supposed to be able to use two alternates in the 4x400, but when you're as good as the U.S. team was that year, Sanya might as well have been an alternate too, since she didn't have to exert herself in the heats. That was like a rest day for Sanya. I guarantee she worked harder in her warmup that day than she did in the actual race.

I'm not convinced that Felix will be doubling at London(assuming she makes the US team in open 100, which is certainly no gimme).
I agree, I feel she will opt out of the 100 in London if she makes the team. I can imagine her waiting till the last minute though, to make the decision.
Fortius19 wrote:story on front page referred to 100/200 at TRIALS, and 200 at OLY
Yea now that she knows she cant do the 400 and run a good 200, she can do the 100, make the team in both and if she doubles in London, she wont have to worry about being tired in the 200.
Felix has no chance of medalling in the 100m in London and thus will not run it there even if she qualifies. Felix sole instead is to win that 200m gold medal.

I think she will focus on just the 200 in London as well. But I do think she has a chance to medal in the London 100m.

Unless injured Felix is a lock on the relays until probably after the next Olympics.

Felix medalling in the 100m in London? Lol. Best joke i heard today. If felix runs and makes the final there, she would be no higher than 5th if that high.

Um...not exactly.
I've seen this movie before; if you havent (or dont recall), stop reading here so I don't spoil the ending...
Felix likely will make the team in both the 100 and 200 as she at 2007 WC.
But actually running both is a different story.
In 2007 she withdrew from the 100 in Osaka and allowed VCB to wear herself out through the rounds of 100m where VCB clipped Lauryn at the tape.
Felix then proceeded to trounce the field in the 200m
The strategy of dropping the 100 to be fresh for the 200 was confirmed by her team after the meet. Expect the same strategy here since Felix knows she likely wont make the medal stand in the 100.
So, If VCB doubles and loses to Jet or SAF, then she'll likely not win the 200 either.
jamaica50 wrote:Felix has no chance of medalling in the 100m in London.
History suggests that, over four of the past five Olympiads, the official runners-up and bronze medallists have run 10,98/10,98 (2008); 10,96/10,97 (2004); 10,94/10,96 (1996); 10,83/10,84 (1992), respectively. Felix's chances of procuring a 100M medal are exceptional, provided she makes the team in this event.
