US Junior ChampsEPSN/Dyestat preview...
http://espn.go.com/high-school/track-and-xc/events/usatf-junior-nationals/2012/story/_/id/8050092/2012-usatf-junior-mens-preview Great M400 matchup with last year's US Youth teammates... A. Bailey (45.19) vs. A. Hall (45.59A). I also noticed Marvin Bracy recently entered/declared in the 100 (also entered are prep leaders at 10.19: T. Hill and A. Hall). This would be Bracy's last chance at getting an automatic qualifier to the Olympic Trials. As of June 13, his legal 10.25 is about #50 on the 100m qualifier list, and 34 have already met the "A" standard of 10.18, with the desired OT field being at 32.
Re: US Junior ChampsLets celebrate the Juniors for what it is and not push Bracy as being a failure if he doesn't get OT's A standard. He has no business being rushed into the OT's. How much faster has Demps run since his OT appearance 4 years ago? Pretty much nada so let the kid (and others go and celebrate greatness at the age they are - JUNIORS) rather than go to the OT's and get the experience of losing. I hope Bracy runs well and Hill and Aldrich Bailey also and they go to Spain and light up the World Juniors.
Illini frosh Ashley Spencer and her coach made choice to not go to OT's despite the fact she is a top 5-6 finisher at worst based on NCAA meet and season but instead to go after Juniors and celebrate that when she knows she can't likely beat Sanya and win the Trials even though she has a far better shot than a Bracy of making the team. My only regret for Juniors is the decision in Olypmic years to hold away from Senior meet as I enjoy seeing it very much but logistics and timing makes it best this weekend elsewhere.
Re: US Junior ChampsMarvin put himself out there really. #justsaying
Re: US Junior Champs
As I stated in a previous thread he hasn't lacked for confidence. In a polite conversation with him he stated he was PLANNING on making the Olympic team! I'm wishing him the best. But his injury has probably set him back too much to perhaps even qualify for the trials.
Re: US Junior ChampsAnybody know where the live results are? I dont see a link on the USATF meet page
Re: US Junior ChampsA national championship and no live results?, come on! I even tried looking at "tweets" and could not find anything.
Re: US Junior ChampsThanks gk. Would be nice(but expecting entirely too much) for that to be linked on the USATF Juniors homepage...
Re: US Junior ChampsBracy pulled out of the 100m it seems...
Tyreek Hill's 10.28 in a -0.9w though is impressive... He won by over .30s >_<
Re: US Junior ChampsI guess I shouldn't be surprised that Bracy didn't start. As for Tyreek Hill, I believe this confirms his 10.19 high school leading mark and the potential this young man has. He's also entered in the 200.
Re: US Junior ChampsEric Futch runs a HSL 51.18 in the 400H qualifying rounds (his previous HSL was 51.77).
Re: US Junior ChampsAny live streaming of US Juniors?
Re: US Junior Champs
I looked all over - no luck. Top 3 high school girl milers easily moved on to 1500m finals: Preliminaries 1 Cain, Mary Bronxville T & 4:24.25Q 2 Hatton, Cayla Unattached & 4:25.64Q 3 Meier, Hannah Unattached & 4:24.57Q 4 Chapus, Camille Harvard-Westlake 4:28.62Q
Re: US Junior ChampsIsn't the guy who finished 7th in the PV, Dean Starkey's son?
Re: US Junior Champs
Yes indeed, headed to Stanford according to dad.
Re: US Junior ChampsTyreek Hill -- the real deal. 10.28 into a 1.8 wind.
Re: US Junior Champs
Yes, and a clear winner, 0.18 faster than 2nd place Ernest of LSU (who ran 2nd leg of winning NCAA 4x1 relay). Let's see what he now does in the 200. Also, 10.28 (-1.8) = 10.16 wind-adjusted. Last edited by gktrack on Fri Jun 15, 2012 3:10 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: US Junior Champs
Oh, REALLY!
Re: US Junior ChampsNikita Kirillov of GTech with a meet record in the PV at 5.54.
Re: US Junior Champs
Coached by his dad, the two always conversing in Russian - very intimidating!
Re: US Junior Champs
Yale is better.... #justsaying lol
Re: US Junior Champsgktrack what wind chart you using? the TFN book one I am using says Hill's time is a 10.18 at 0.0 wind but if run with wind its a legal 10.09 had they reversed it. Impressive indeed and makes me less skeptical of his Golden South marks though still thinking that 200 a little quick due to a cross wind.
I also still advocate his skipping OT's to focus on World Juniors. Now if he does pop a big 200 this weekend then I will reverse my opinion in light of how weak the US is in the 200 with who is healthy and reported to be racing. Anyone hear any more on where he is headed for college? Was headed to the outback of Kansas for JC football but said he never signed a NOI so would be free to go anywhere JC wise. His track exploits no doubt causing him to rethink football but my guess is he ends up at a JC to do both as he was a talented football player. Speaking of talented football player/sprinters with Bracy pulling out of the race this means we have seen the last of him as a prep track athlete. He will no doubt no focus on being healthy for football at Florida State this fall. Sad ending to his prep career. This is why I always caution the hypemasters from pushing the latest phenom towards all-time greatness until they actually do it. Too many roadblocks get in the way.
Re: US Junior Champs
You left out the [used to be]. Let me check the final NCAA team scores this year . . . Yale . . . Yale . . . Yale . . . um . . . not seeing it . . . must be a typo . . . oversight. Nope don't see it all.
Re: US Junior Champssprintdoc...
I guess there's a few, very close variations on wind adjustment. Out of convenience, I use Mureika's web calulator... http://myweb.lmu.edu/jmureika/track/wind/index.html And points well taken on your other comments. However, I believe it was Marvin himself that was pushing for the Oly Trials, not just the "hypemasters" out there. I agree however, that it will be interesting to see what Tyreek Hill does in the upcoming 200, as I'm sure this 100 win did wonders for his confidence... (and I still have not heard where he's officially going next year, school/sport wise). Looks like live results is down/behind... anyone know results of W100 and M 110HH?
Re: US Junior ChampsShelbi Vaughan - AJR 60.59 in wDT!
Re: US Junior Champs
Incredible year for the young lady! w/ two throws today over her previous best: F, F, 55.28, 60.03, F, 60.59 (198' 9") Her 60.59 is currently #7 on 2012's US list, and a USOT "A" qualifier!
Re: US Junior Champs
Good Comeback! lol

Re: US Junior ChampsM110H - Dondre Echols in 13.56 (-1.8)
and W100 - Dezerea Bryant in 11.43 (-0.2) edging J. Madu and S. Sanders Looks like Texas A&M signed what appears to be at least 3 high schoolers going to the World Juniors (Vaughan, Madu and Aldrich Bailey, assuming he qualifies).
Re: US Junior Champs
Yeah, looks like the Aggies are gonna be championship contenders again. And Madu once again delivers when it matters most, close race with 0.03s between 2nd and 5th.
Re: US Junior Champs
Edging? Hardly. Bryant smoked the field.
Re: US Junior Champs
yes, a poor choice of words I guess... but a tight 2-5 finish though, and a promising 4 x 100... We'll see if prep leaders Sanders or super soph Washington can bounce back in the 200.
Re: US Junior ChampsGunnar Nixon with a comfortable lead in the junior decathlon at 4062, not bad for his second decathlon in two weeks. Noteworthy was his high jump, 2.17m or 7' 1 1/2"... I assume that's gotta be a personal best?
Re: US Junior Champs
and I'm assuming with nothing like the hurricane-force winds she had at the GWI last week....
Re: US Junior Champsi wonder why levonte whitfield didn't run at this meet. as he defeated hill in their most recent meet. bracy must still be injured. also poor result for hall.
