Why are you all getting so excited about a one off race? She will not be a factor if she decide to run the 200m at the olympics and from what I have seen of Montsho thus far, she will be toast in the 400m as well..Sanya does not have a good track record running rounds save for the 2009 world championship in berlin

Richards-Ross stomped Montsho last week :?

As for the 200, what's to lose? It's doesnt affect her main event one bit.

I guess there was more sustainability in the early 10.8x and more high SE volume in that 49.3x than was initially discovered.

And guru you're right - in between the zones (and at the end of the last) she could be difficult to match, IMHO.

Stomped is an overstatement. But I think she should double. For one her main event is first and can throw her all into it. The 200 is after and she can simply give the 'whats left' in that event. The only concern now though is the effect it will have on the relays.

Right now I think her and Montsho are neck and neck in the 400.

In the 200 she is in there (with this run) with VCB and Felix (more so than Jeter IMHO) if she can handle the rounds well.

Worth noting, and somewhat buried in the glare of SRR's performance - Mary Wineberg's 23.51 just missed her 23.48 PR from 2008. Time will tell if this means anything for the Trials 400.

She beats Montsho, who typically runs fast early-season marks if I remember correctly (although maybe that is from early altitude races at home) and you think she will be toast in the 400? All of her primary competition in the 200 will be contemplating doubling also, so...

This would be a wind-legal 21.x race with 1.3 wind. My guess is that there is some gagging on the prospect of another runner to worry about for VCB's date with destiny. If this had been Williams-Mills we would be seeing reams of speculation rather some silly comment about being toast based on what they have seen so far.

VCB fears no one and she always show up and show out when it counts the most. That being said great freaking run by Sanya wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.Where the hell that came from? These are the times that VCB and Allsyon should be running amazing

I dont see how she is neck and neck with Montsho. Sanya is a long way from her 400m PR with a run that was a decent way from Montshos PR.
If VCB and Felix were here, they probably would have won, considering what they ran earlier in the year. And they would still be a long way off their PR's....

If the Trials final were tomorrow, with no more info at hand regarding form than what I have right now, my 200 picks would be SRR, Felix, Madison/Jeter(leaning Madison)

Before today I might have agreed with you. But after seeing Madison's 100 in NY, and the way she was closing over the final 30m, I have an inkling her 200 at the Trials is going to be big.

Until VCB runs sub-22 she will have a tough time winning a race like that. When was the last time she ran 22.07 basic, by the way?

Of course, evaluations can change a lot when someone does something unexpected, as we saw in two 100m races today with SAFP and Gay changing the 100m landscape.

Who knows, she might be able to sneak into the 4 x 4 relay pool.

Speaking of doubles, is Madison going to double? Or is she just going to focus on sprinting?

The 400m gold in London has Sanya's name written over it. It's for her to loose. As for the trials, I think that if she were to double i.e., run both 400 & 200m, there's a very high chance that she could be in top 3 in the 200m along with Felix & Duncan/Madison.

i agree that after the last two Dl meets SRR has showed that the 400 gold is hers to lose.
however, i do not think she will double at the trials and neither will allison felix or carmelita jeter.

This is the biggest news of the day. This is as big if not bigger than Tyson's 10 flat. Do you guys realize that a sub 49 is right around the corner? Sanya ran her 200 pb in 2006 which was 22.17 (+0.6) and then one week later ran her 48.70 pb which has been collecting dust for the last 6 years. She even stated before she ran(the race however wasn't telivised) that when her 200 is great her 400 is great too. Her confidence is going to be sky high for the rest of the season which we all know she needs to do well. This may be a magical season. Who knows we may see Sanya sub 48.50?

Neither Carmelita or Sanya have anything to lose by doubling since it is their secondary event and comes after their primary event at the olympics and I think at trials as well. I think Allyson will double at trials but whether or not she does at the olympics who knows. I dont see Allyson winning a gold in the 100 but if she could scrape away with a bronze which is probably a waste of time for her. For some athletes the 100 rounds may be a warm up which helps their turnover rate in the 200 for some it can be a fatigue on the central nervous system unlike the 400 which leaves muscle soreness. I guess we have to watch and wait.

There's merit to what you're stating, but I think you're mis-remembering about Montsho, who only twice last year broke 50,00 - once in Monaco and the second time during her world champs victory. Montsho has put down some 'early' 50,3s and 4s, but that is to be expected of a person of her calibre. The majority of her fast times occur later in the season, and on the circuit.

VCB is still the 'favorite', but there are getting to be enough of them that the likelihood of her winning might only be 40% (e.g., AF 30%, Jeter 10%, SRR 15%, Field 5%).
