Forecast is hot! Duncan will run another world lead. Not sure she will break the record because who will press her?

The forecast is also for a headwind, so good luck on the fast time.

Possibly, but it definitely seems impossible for her to not make the London team right now.
I'm honestly kind of nervous thinking what she could do in the final on Saturday.

22.76 would have qualified for last year's World Championship Final. Obviously, the conditions weren't optimal, but still!

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but were TWO Collegiate Class Records broken in these prelims??

I had the Frosh record as 22.83 from 1986.
(Can't recall the name right now!!)
Octavius Freeman ran 22.74.

And I had Merlene Ottey as the Junior Class record holder, with her 22.24 from 1982.
Kimberley Duncan ran 22.19!!

TWO Class Records in the prelims??!!
WHEW!!!

that is the key (carrying the form especially after so many races this week). plus the event will be very competitive at the trials, if felix (doesnt enter the 400 and focuses on the deuce), jeter (decides to double back from the 100), solomon, knight and tarmoh come to the form they were in at last year's usatf. along with the women's 100 h it might be the most competitive event at the usot.

I don't know that- lacking experience- she can turn around after ncaas and beat Felix at trials, but she's sure to help push the field to some impressive times. Especially if Sanya runs the deuce. This could be interesting.

Before the summer's over Ms Duncan could run 21 and change.

The wind Gods were unkind to Duncan this weekend. She went to Des Moines with 22.04 on her mind, and the temperature was good all four days, but the wind was uncondusive to to record breaking on Friday and Saturday when ESPN dictated the direction they would run. Even if ESPN had allowed them to run with the wind, the time would have had the dreaded "w" attached to it. Had Thursday's semifinal had been the final, Duncan would have run through the line, rather than coast the last 30 meters and there's no doubt in my mind that she would have become the first sub-22 runner in collegiate history. It reminds me of what happened to Mike Marsh at the 1992 Olympics when he coasted for the last 30 meters to a wind-legal 19.72 in the semifinal only to face a stiff head-wind in the final.

The "stiff" headwind on Marsh's 19.73 (not 19.72) was all of 0.2mps.

I was talking about the final (20.01), not the semifinals.

Wind was -1.0 in the final, Which would give him about 19.95.

Tonight on one of our sports talk radio shows, Duncan said that she won't be running the 100 at the trials.

very interesting... I don't know how relay politics works, but one would think that would reduce her 4x1 chances... especially the final four that run the 4x1.

Not to hijack the thread away from Kimberlyn who's earned every ounce of attention and admiration she gets here and more, but if Marsh hadn't shut it down in the last four or five strides of his 19.73 semi in Barcelona (WR 19.72), any opinions on how much faster he might have run if he'd pushed it through the tape?

I think that fact that over the last three years, she's run second, third and fourth legs for LSU without a sigle dropped baton of DQ should count for more than finshing top-six in the 100.

Duncan has scratched from the 100, which one might assume pretty much puts paid to any relay chances she may have had.

When has placing high in the 100 ever guaranteed you anything? Where did Knight place in the 100 last year? You may remember that in 1996, D'Andre Hill finshed second at the Trials (10.92) and got left off the team.

Agreed. Knight kicked off the 3rd, 4th and 5th placers in the 100m off the relay last year when she herself only finished 4th in the 200...
With her 100m credentials for the year already laid out if she makes the 200m team, Besides politics, I cant see why she wont be on the relay.

Actually, she kicked all of them off; Knight didn't run the 100m last year. Knight got an opportunity and she made the best of it, but in fairness, she should have never been in Korea. This decision, more than the m4x4 relay, suggests to me that Drummond may be politically-compromised and not fit for the job.

As I mentioned in the 4x1 thread, some may feel Adidas deserves a face on the relay?

BK is talented and doesnt have to defend the 4x1 gold medal performance from Daegu. Maybe thats the reason the coach believe she belongs...it worked well last time.

However, she does run for Adidas.

Drummond has also been a consultant to, for example, Tyson Gay and Marshevet Hooker --both of whom run for Adidas.

See the 4x1 thread.
