*Yawn*

Who's faster...WC Gold medalist Kim Collins...

Or... Asafa Powell?

Okay Collins likes the bright lights. He should wear shades. But he's NOT in the same class as Powell -medal or not- nor will he ever be just because he enjoys doing stand up comedy on the side.

Question:

Is Bob Beamon known more for his World Record Performance... or the Olympic Gold medal that few people realize, remember, or even care that he won? His record was broken 20 years ago and he's still known for HOW FAR HE JUMPED and NOT for the bling around his neck.

If you're unable to formulate a more comprehensive, cognitive argument related to the topic at hand, I'll have to ask you to sit in the corner, be quiet, and listen (read).

Yes, she's the greatest talent in the world from 60-400m since Torrence and Perec-if not ever-

So he wasn't only talking about athletes from Sanya's generation

And if of course VCB is included she may run the 400m rarely but Sanya, Gwen and MJ doesn't compete in the 60m.

You're right, I wasnt just speaking about the current generation. Sanya running sub 11 and 22.1 in only a handful of attempts while ALSO being the youngest to run sub 49 and most prolific sub 50 performer IN HISTORY while still only 27 y/o allows me to do...

Just that. 8-)

Oh dear, this has me worried. My memory is usually very reliable, yet I can't quite call to mind the Beamonesque performance of Sanya's that so resonates with the general public.

Am I alone in thinking that Track Daddy has to be some kind of elaborate hoax? He's just sat at home laughing whilst he winds us all up with his increasingly ridiculous arguments. I'm assuming that he's not actually simple minded and seeing as no sane person could actually believe the nonsense he spouts surely he has to be a joke, right?

SRR is better but not like what TD claims she is. It's not fair to compare SRR with someone like VCB or Jeter when they rarely compete against each other. The same applies to AF. Sanya just needs to be consistent in her outings in Major championships to back up the times she has posted on the GP circuit. That's pretty much it. Besides her athletics career, I do believe that she can make a good sports/T&F presenter like MJ :-) I would love to see her & MJ present athletics on beebs (BBC)!

I guess it depends on the segment of the public you ask. For example...

When she set the STILL STANDING hs National record in the 400 meters it drew more than modest applause.

When people realized she was the youngest woman to EVER-(thats in the history of world)- run sub 49 by hitting the mark at the tender age of 20---some thought that was a nice "record" to have. Considering the event is so demanding for mature adults and she still had Enfamil on her breath I could see where they were coming from.

So she ran sub 49 again and broke the 20+ year old American Record. A record that no other American has come within .80 of a second to in what seems like the last be-zillion years, some more folk were impressed. So she did it again. And again. And again.

When some people realized she's the only woman FROM ANY COUNTRY in nearly a decade to do it they thought it worthy to raise a brow. So they gave her multiple AOY awards which no other woman has ever achieved. This is significant because its awarded across genre's and therefore depending on the perspective might make a single event medal seem somewhat paltry. You know?

When they learned that by age 24 or 25 she had run sub 50 more times than other woman in history some people thought it worthy of a little more praise, you know? Then by age 27 they noticed that she'd accomplished it far more than anyone in histroy and had set a mark for consistency that will probably never be approached.

so...More applause followed.

So yes, trevor, we both remember the time old Bob jumped far. Your memory may indeed failing but it appears to only be of the short term variety. :D

Anyway then you have haters like the ones you can sometimes read hear (not you, of course) who at times conveniently forget that we watch races to see PEOPLE RUN FAST, break records and win races. And when they do we recognize it accordingly.

They are those who because they MAY prefer an American born athlete like say an Allyson Felix or who being native Jamaican resent the fact that a 12 year old girl moved with her family and became a US citizen --- have decided they'd minimize or ignore it all. Or better, develop they're own subjective criteria for greatness for the purpose of omitting those who set different standards of their own.

But God forbid I put you or anyone else in a box.

I'm just saying. You know?

Actually this isnt all that complicated so simple may in fact be apropos.

See...Its called the truth.

Try it.

Sanya Richards Ross doesn't get the credit she deserves for SHREDDING the record books during her era and doing it CLEAN. Being SUB 11 (in so few attempts) AND running multiple SUB 49s (see how few women have done that, nevermind both) alone puts her among the most talented sprinters in world history. That fact alone. Medals, schmedals, blah blah blah. If she never wins another won she should be on the Mount Rushmore of All Round Female Sprinters.

See, I'm not crazy. I'm just honest.

Oh but that IS the issue, friend.

If global medals were the ONLY thing that mattered, it would be the only races they run.
