Dafne Schippers looked injured.

Hans Van Alphen surprisingly good so far!

Jess is over 1.85 2nd attempt

she needs to be back over 1.90 in the HJ, i feel like she has compromised some HJ points in getting stronger and improving her SP. I'm not 100% it's a great trade off

In Berlin she jumped 1.92 for 1132 points and threw 14.09 for 803

in Deagu she jumped 1.86 for 1054 points and threw 14.67 for 839 points

a net loss of 45 points

if you compare indoors 10/12

she jumps 190/187
sp 14.03/14.79

the SP was a great PB but it still leaves a net loss of 9 compared to Doha. if we consider that her HJ pb is 1.95 and massive points she would achieve if she jumped that in Hep i worry the balance is wrong.

of course the 2 may not be connected but getting the balance right in the Hep is essential and Jess strengths are in big point events (hurdles/HJ), maybe she should stick that rather than going for performance in events that give a relatively smaller return

enough of my musings

really? hope not mush serious to her,1.73m perhaps not too good for her because she mentioned she can jump around 1.80m.

tha same to me,she always emphasize her JV problem after WC 2011,and add LJ this winter, but may ingore once her strong strongest event HJ,in fact, in my way her biggest problem in wc 2011 first is HJ,where she can get many points, then secnog day JV which is high techinique event, often unstable even elite thrower,

This is the third multi-events competition in a row where Jess has underperformed in the high jump. She's still capable of getting into the low 1.90m range as she showed at the UK Indoor Champs but this is becoming more of a rarity these days but it does show she can combine a 1.90m+ HJ and something near 15m in the SP.

Her coach said she was rusty and blamed the run-up but it didn't stop Skujyte et al from clearing 1.91m.

After Shot, Men's standings - cumulative projected pt differential and forecasted score
1. Van Alphen +171, 8371 2. Suarez -212, 8289, 3. Sinticolaas -23, 8281, 4. Krauchanka -101, 8269, 5. Knobel -24, 8254, 6. Freimuth -48, 8239, 7. Garcia -177, 8220, 8. Behrenbruch -70, 8162, 9. Mikhan 0, 8152, 10. Schrader +121, 8124 ....18. Sebrle -153, 7956 (trying to be oldest to break 8000)

Thoughts - hard to see any of these challenging a healthy Eaton, Hardee or Clay. Suarez possibly, maybe Van Alpen if he can improve some more. Good luck to the Germans on picking 3 of these (5,6,8 & 10). I still am picking Schrader to lead all the Germans here. Muller is 14th and not bad either.

Try it in a different browser. A few people have had that message but it's gone away in another browser (works fine on Firefox and Safari from what I've heard).

Tomorrow will be very, very close based on recent form! Ennis currently on 4113 and Chernova in third on 3884. I've done some projected scores based on best marks achieved in the past twelve months and Chernova (6.82m, 52.95m, 2:08.04 = 3022) would prevail 6906 to Ennis' 6896 (6.51m, 45.66m, 2:07.81 = 2783). These scores might be a tad over-ambitious but it's a gap which Chernova can close.

If Jess had jumped 1.91 as expected she would have an additional 78 points for a first day score of 4191!
Surely only JJK has beaten that, but I'm having trouble finding a list of best scores by day. Anyone?

I have something very similar, once again it's going to come down to the LJ, i don't think Chernova will jump 6.80, 6.60 is more likely but Jess has to stay in contention with 6.40. I know she had to change foot but for someone who can sprint, hurdle and HJ so strongly her LJ is a real weak point comparatively.

I totally agree with the post above about Deagu defeat being about the HJ, she put herself under so much pressure with the weak HJ that the JT fell apart a 1.90 HJ and average JT would have ben enough.

It seems here apart from the HJ (and we may have to accept the her 1.95 days are over) she's on fire and Chernova looks pretty average so i have high hopes for a win tomorrow :D

You have to switch to Flash, on the right of the video you see "Einstellungen" or maybe "settings", depending on the language you see. There you can choose between Flash and Windows Media Player. WMP does not work, Flash does.
