Oh it must be Mike Berry then!
I could have sworn I saw his name on the top 10, surprised that its not.

I thought long and hard about Gehret but ultimately went with Boase (There is another who probably should have been picked over Boase and Gehret...it seems obvious that he would have been chosen by now. I won't comment until he does).

Gehret is the 5th fastest collegian in 2012 with a time of 45.22 to win the Big 10 Champs. But, what proves that he has the "wheels" to get a mid-44 (or better?) time is that he was 2nd at Big-10's in 20.62 (0.8) [20.78 w0.6 in heats]. His PB in 2011 was 20.93/46.69 (46.62i) so it shows that he's growing into his own. He turned 20 2 weeks ago.

I also wonder about Gehret; that was a great to pull off in that event (and he only won by 0.20), so he competed well. It was a very calm day, which helps that 400 runners (the women's 400 went in 51.02). Have to see how in does in a big show on a fast track -- 44.x would not be a surprise at all at this point.

Preston - Of course, Mike Berry - but he hasn't shown much yet so he's a true sleeper. I'll stick with Gehret. :)

I guess I should have read page 2 before giving Mike Berry since I am being redundant. But can anybody tell me what that little golden logo that has appeared beside my name means? :?

True, I guess after indoor nationals i dint really follow him and assumed he running as good as others considering his pretty amazing 2011.

But yea, Im still going with my pick for torrance, even though he hasn't done anything special this year. (yet!)

I know Berry hasn't competed well this year...but it is early and I was surprised to see him not picked by the TFNWC. But the reason why I stayed away from him is one of the other secrets of the TFNWC - they have access. They often times know from talking with coaches or the athletes themselves long before it's reported (see: Pappas, T). So, anyone gh and company hasn't picked I tend to think they may know something that they haven't reported (sneaky devils!).

One other thing on Gehret: He's slightly faster than Andrew Rock at 200m (20.84 NWI; 20.85 0.5/44.35)

Andrew Irwin in the PV. He easily has more upside than anyone jumping over 5.50 in the US. We need a youth injection at the top end of the event in the US and I think he'll be the one to do it.

I'm still shocked that Shakeema Walker-Welsch didn't make the "poobas" list! She was 5th best American last year and is probably the most consistent American wTJ'r for the last few years. Yes, she turns 36 this year (but she turned 35 last year!) so what gives, TFNWC? Not only can she make top-3, she's one who can actually reach the B-standard.

100 - Wallace Spearmon (top end; no acceleration, but...)

TJ - Zedric Thomas (You need a HUGE PB)
HT - Chris Rohr (replacing Matt DiBruno)
JT - Nick Lyons
DT - John Bowman (Solid)
SP - Zach Lloyd (Do you know how hard it is to be a darkhorse to make the team in mSP?)

100 - Octavious Freeman (A near gift?)

400 - Ashley Spencer (began season as 400h)

Steeple - Sara Hall
5000 - Elizabeth (Liz) Maloy
10000 - Alisha Williams

20K Walk - Michelle Rohl
HJ - Deirdre Muller (super longshot)
PV - Melissa Gergel (where's PVP when you need her?)
LJ - Akiba McKinney (A little luck?)

Thanks for the update. I will replace them when I get a chance to go through this again. (tough event to pick. I have to weed out Marathoners and 5K people.A)

Not an injury. Not sure of the details, but it's some type of "compliance" issue that resulted in him being unable to compete for the latter portion of the season.

Primm was a late scratch at Oxy. I don't recall seeing any recent results from him.

How is that a stealth pick? T&FN has him third. As one of only four MPVers with A standard, all he has to do to make the team is beat either Jeremy Scott (has only jumped 5.42 so far this year), Derek Miles (hasn't made a bar outdoors yet, though I'm sure he's been busy coaching) or Brad Walker (could break the AR or could NH).

But I suppose it would be a surprise to anyone not following the event closely this year.

Times were slow with moderately high winds combined with substantial gusts. It is supposed to be windy again today, but not quite as bad, I think. The freshman Austin Mudd almost passed Jock at the finish of the 800. I am putting Mudd in as an early 2016 Trials finalist.

Ok, gh, exercised TRN version of "prima nocte" ("It's good to be the king!") and stole some of my very promising picks for the new form chart, and also picked off a few obvious poobah blunders - most notably Mike Berry; however I got my fingers crossed that we can get at least one on the team.

Here are the picks of mine that gh and company appropriated (and I use that word with as much sarcasm as possible  ) so I will have to go back and make some changes after thinking about this:

Men
200: Harry Adams
400h: Reggie Wyatt
LJ: Trevell Quinley
Steeple: Ben Bruce

Women:
100h: Briana Rollins
400h: Turquoise Thompson
Steeple: Sara Hall
10k: Alisha Williams

Aside from taking all of the "can't miss" athletes, what do these guys really know? This thread will attempt to pick athletes who are NOT on the list but who end up actually making the Olympic Team.

How many folks have done this in the past (2004, 2008)?
Who made the Olympic team that was not on the Track & FIeld News formchart?

I'm afraid that would be a gh, dj question. I have no idea, but I can't imagine that TFN is always right?

Amechi Morton has indicated he will be entering the US trialsin the 400H and he is not on the official (dj) form chart. :) So I'm adding him to my list . He would have an excellent chance.

Thanks for the info. But also, as far as bushop's question, has anyone who never featured on your form list ever made an Olympic team? WC team?

Probably. Somebody in the men's 200 is a good candidate, given that the form charts going in always have no end of people who end up not running or are hurt.

At the best, I doubt we've ever had a chart that has done any better than only 2/3 right in terms of the top 3s.

Miles Smith! Wow. You may as well choose Otis Harris or Andrew Rock.

Conventional wisdom amongst the NCAA picks seems to be Gehret (apart from McQuay) but I think David Verburg has a good shot at it.

The relay pool will be:
Merritt
Hurdler A (Bershawn?)
Berry
Verburg
McQuay

..and you know, I can see Wariner finishing in the top 5 and being in the pool so I'll take him to close it out.
