Abraham Hall: 10.19/20.58 !!! (#1's on 2012 HS List)

An incredible double at the Texas High School Championships for Abraham Hall of South Grand Prairie H.S., both currently #1's on the 2012 High School leader board:
10.19 (1.3) = 10.27 wind-adjusted
and
20.58 (1.1) = approx. 20.66 wind-adjusted

That's the fastest legal H.S. 100 since J. Demps' 10.01 in 2008, and you'd have to go back to 2007 to find a faster H.S. 200 (B. Nellum, 20.43). For those of you high school historians out there, when was the last time we saw a 100/200 double like this at a H.S. state meet?

Note: I believe he is West Point bound next year, not something we often see with a top prep sprinter.

Following the various college championship meets this weekend, I'm sure that Abraham's times would have placed him in the top 3, in both sprints (on a wind-adjusted basis), in each of the major college conference championships (SEC, Pac12, Big10, Big12) this weekend... if the above didn't give one enough of a perspective.

Henry Neal back at the '90 TX State Meet had a similar day.

Too lazy to look up his FAT times but I remember the board displaying the hand times being 9.9 & 19.9 before the times were made official.

I have to comment on this.

The photo is the 1976 WestPoint graduation; Jesse Owens is the class "Goat";the last ranking cadet. The bag he is holding contains a $1 from all his fellow graduates.

Graduation speaker that day was President Gerald Ford. At the time I was assistant coach on the Army track team. That day, I was assigned as an MP for the day (Military Police - not Member of Parliament, which was later in my life). I spent about 2 hours at parade rest in front of the main stage with a .45 on my hip. I am pretty sure no other Kiwi has got that in his resume.

And as for Abraham Hall, if he is going to WestPoint, then good on him. Incredible school. Incredible history. And still my favourite place I have ever lived.

Probably not the best environment for wanting to become the world's best sprinter. But if Abraham is looking beyond what will be his all too short a time as a top athlete then he could do a lot worse than West Point. To get into West Point he must also be a good student academically. Good luck to him. And go "The Long Gray Line".

Tuariki, I enjoyed your post... and yes, nearly a straight A student, and I read he didn't really participate in track until high school. He's shown a nice improvement in his times over the past couple years as well... and I'd bet he would hold the West Point 100/200 record before he stepped on site (maybe not Army records though, w/ Charlie Greene, etc.).

He's shown a nice improvement in his times over the past couple years as well... and I'd bet he would hold the West Point 100/200 record before he stepped on site (maybe not Army records though, w/ Charlie Greene, etc.).

He is already well in front of the USMA records. 20.54 and 20.84 (both hand timed)

As for Army wide records I am sure someone probably keeps them but I have no knowledge of them.

Charlie Greene was the West Point's equivalent to the Human Resource Manager when I was there. In 1977 I was thinking of extending for another tour but Charlie checked and told me that if i did I had a 95% chance of being posted to the DMZ in South Korea, which was an unaccompanied (no family) tour of at least 12 months. That didn't thrill me so I got out.

Other Regular Army assistant coaches at West Point when I was there were Mel Pender,Tommy Hill, Tommy Haynes, Mike Shine and Bob Wallis. The late Carleton Crowell was Head Coach. On his death Mel Pender was interim head coach until the appointment of the late John Randolph.

Since this is almost (correction) an "A standard", has he stated he will go to the trials?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the 2012 USOT "A" standard was 10.18 ("B"=10.28), and I don't think there are any high schoolers with a legal "A" mark of 10.18?

Also, to my knowledge, there are 5 invitees, thus far, to the June Adidas H.S. Dream 100 in New York, with 3-4 remaing slots to be filled... so maybe Abraham will be added to this field and they'd meet there at least???
