Is this being televised or streamed? No mention in local newspaper it is happening today.

Universal has it. Temps in the 70's at the start only to get hotter. The trees aren't bloomed yet so no real shade.

Today's death march is over: 2:31:50 and 2:12:40. You can go back to sleep now.

Maybe the 2 hour prediction was for the original marathon distance of 24+miles. :)

G. Mutai dropped at 30K.

Now the top three at London next week are likely to be the Kenyan Olympic team. They all know what Mosop and G.Mutai did (or failed to do), and decide how they race.

And Cherop might have a shot at making the women's team, depending on how the Kiplagats and Keitany do in London next week.

And no one on this board seems to be interested in the Kenyan Olympic team selection.

The US had the #4 man for the second year in a row, and a big guy you would not think would be at an advantage in such a race. Hartman re-focused on this race after missing at the Trials.

The US also had a bit of a home-town guy in Wesley Korir as well. I thought I remembered him as in the process of seeking US citizenship; does anyone know more?

Having gotten the Bronze and then beaten the lot here, Cherop should get consideration; the other gal will be better known now also.

Letsrun.com writes Korir is a "potential 2016 US Olympian." So is he really applying for a US citizenship like Sam Chelanga?

2016 USA marathon team could be Rupp, Korir and Chelanga. :)

Does it make any difference who they pick?

Judging from today's race in Boston (or yesterday's in Rotterdam), wouldn't you think it does?

And another consequence of Boston is that Gebremariam is almost certainly out of the Ethiopian Olympic team. And before Dubai this year, he was considered one of the top candidates along with Haile and Kebede. Now only Kebede has a chance to make the team, if he runs well in London. (It will probably take a sub-2:05 there.)

In all seriousness, NO, it scarcely matters at all. You're comparing apples to oranges to grapefruit and expecting the result to be somehow obvious or logical? If the selectors go with the best performers of 2011, they'll have an excellent team. If they go with the best performers as of April 2012, they'll have an excellent team. If they go with educated guesses as of June 2012, they'll have an excellent team. The individual names will change, but they'll have an excellent team. Any attempt to be more "scientific" about this is equivalent to reading tea leaves and chicken bones.

Since it is not Kenya-related, I will post this comment here.

Another runner who took herself out of Olympics is Firehiwot Dado. No way she could be chosen, especially after Gelana ran 2:18 in Rotterdam.

Winning a Major is not a big deal and having problems in the heat is a clear sign of not being a top marathoner. .... tough criteria you set....

Well, I didn't set the criteria. The Ethiopian federation did.

And looks like Tsegaye Kebede will have a hard time making the team, given the weather forecast in London. (14km/h head wind in the last 10km.)

14km at 10m up is 8-10kph (5-6mph) at runner level, so this is not that bad. Plus, there are building in London and trees and at least they have gotten the tailwind earlier.
