Re: Paula v GebI'm going with Geb. I think having the benefit of chasing will tip the balance
Re: Paula v GebThis sounds fabulous and will get me up bright and early on a Sunday morning for the first time in ages.
It's really hard to say who will win as we have no idea of their form. Having said that I've learnt over the years never to bet against Paula and this is one time when I'll thoroughly approve of her going off hard from the start.
Re: Paula v GebI think I'd give the nod to Haile. Being the chaser has to be an advantage and even though his form is unknown, he was still able to turn around his DNF in Berlin last year with a 61:29 HM on a hilly course in Birmingham four weeks later so I think Haile should be in similar-ish form to last year when he ran 60:18 last year seeing as he's had the best part of two months to recover from Tokyo.
That means Paula needs to be in 68-flat form which is a do-able, although it depends on how much the bronchitis has taken out of her. Apart from this though, it sounds like she's had a fairly non-problematic start to the season so hopefully she can put in a good performance.
Re: Paula v Geb
can we watch it somewhere ??
Re: Paula v Geb
From the Vienna Marathon website; Follow all the action at the Vienna City Marathon in the VCM Liveticker! From Thursday to Sunday we will inform you about news and stories from the stars and current issues from the organisational team. Get the statements from the press conferences and the developments in the race in English. Other parts of this Liveticker will be in German only. Additonally, a live stream of the race provided by Austrian Broadcasting Corporation ORF will be shown here on Sunday, April 15, from 8:40 am. This live stream is available world wide.
Re: Paula v Geb
Kermit's put a link on AW's online section
Re: The Emperor versus the QueenAM AZE ING
So it's 7.40am UK time
Re: The Emperor versus the QueenIt says it'll be on ORF 2 Europe TV which means it really will be available world wide 8:40am CET.
Marathon de Paris on Eurosport so I just need to find Rotterdam
Re: The Emperor versus the Queen
We've been discussing this on AW and if you look at the Vienna Marathon website it seems to be counting down on GMT so looks like it's 8.50am here. I'm getting up at 7.30am just in case.
Re: The Emperor versus the Queen
Wise move - latest AW post points out they seem to have not adjusted to summer time on their website! Early start it is...
Re: The Emperor versus the QueenDoesn't seem to have started at 7.40am GMT. Should have been on 15 mins ago but still saying an hour to go on the website???
Re: The Emperor versus the QueenThe website doesn't seem to be working for me which doesn't bode well.

Re: The Emperor versus the QueenActually it has started.
Re: The Emperor versus the QueenAre you watching somewhere?
Re: The Emperor versus the QueenGot the first update from Twitter but the streaming is working now.
http://www.vienna-marathon.com/?url=new ... 26#article I'm using the ORF2 link.
Re: The Emperor versus the QueenGeb apparently 6:18 behind at 5km... at this pace he's going to lose.
Re: The Emperor versus the QueenHe seems to have lost his pacemakers as well
Re: The Emperor versus the QueenThere's something wrong with the 6:18, though. It's what they keep saying but it doesn't match the splits... going by the splits Geb might well win.
Re: The Emperor versus the QueenI wish they had a time trial at major champs, it would reward people like Paula who take it out from the gun rather than those who just sit and kick. I would also like an Ekiden Relay in major champs to give distance runners a chance at a relay medal
Re: The Emperor versus the QueenGeb ran faster through 5K than Alan Webb did today in an open 5000.
Re: The Emperor versus the QueenWhat are Paula's pacemakers doing ? they're supposed to be pacing her not just running off !!
I think it's going to be really close, i want to see more of these races
Re: The Emperor versus the Queen
What would the point be of an event that gives Kenya an automatic gold every time?
Re: The Emperor versus the QueenMaybe mump just wants more athletics action. If that's the case I can see his point
Re: The Emperor versus the QueenThe latest splits and gaps indicate Geb is going to win very easily, but I'm somewhat wary of those splits and gaps now... maybe the 6:18 was the gap at 4km
Re: The Emperor versus the Queen3:42 at 9K? At this rate, he'll catch her with MILES to go.
Re: The Emperor versus the Queen
So we should have events in case Kenya win ?? US are practically guaranteed 4x4 every time, maybe we should scrap it !! also have you heard of country called Ethiopia ? they have some pretty nifty runners
Re: The Emperor versus the QueenThey have nowhere near the depth that Kenya has, and if Ekiden were made into an Olympic event, I guarantee that it wouldn't be superstars running it. If you want to guarantee the Kenyans an Olympic gold, make the distance medley an Olympic event.
Re: The Emperor versus the QueenHaile looks really good. Paula, notsomuch.
Re: The Emperor versus the QueenGap now 0:00, and this time I think we can trust it.
Re: The Emperor versus the QueenWell, there you go. Haile just wrecked it.
Re: The Emperor versus the QueenI've lost the feed
Re: The Emperor versus the QueenThe greatest smile in all of sports.
Re: The Emperor versus the QueenI lost the feed ages ago
Re: The Emperor versus the QueenPaula just inside 72 minutes.
