Which JB: Bourne or Bond?

Postby gh » Tue Jul 24, 2007 11:36 am

Matt Damon, not surprisingly, prefers the Bourne character:

I'd say the Bourne movies have been better than any of the original Connery Bonds...

I agree. The latest Bond was really good though...but I recently rewatched it on DVD and it didn't quite hold up as well as I would have thought.

I agree, gh -- I'm not much of a fan usually of the political-spy-action-thriller type movie, but I really enjoyed both Bourne movies; actually preferred the second one, despite/because of its darker mood. Looking forward to the next one (and I hope they stop with #3).

I vote for Bourne..I like the authenic settings.. I have seen most of the Bond films but they all seem a little "campy".. especially in retrospect

Bourne for me too.

I think Damon does a great job with it. I buy him in the part. Pitt would have been fine also but Damon is very credible.

I like both and why not? Its apples and oranges. The latest Bond was much less cartoony than recent efforts. Only saw the 2nd Bourne and loved it.

I have collected and read about ten of Robert Ludlums novels, still check used book stores for those I am missing.
From this dedicated perspective, I don't see Pitt in this role... too "pretty" and not physical enough.. would come off like an early Bond..but then, I am not the casting director.

New Bourne film coming out in August called "Bourne Legacy". No Matt Damon as Jason Bourne, but Jeremy Renner as Aaron Cross. He's part of the Outcome program –"Treadstone without the inconsistency" - and that he can heal remarkably well. The trailer is on youtube.

I think Damon didn't want to do a sequel because he thought the character had nothing else to do. He gave the excuse that he would do another one if Paul Greengrass was Director, but Paul Greengrass had said he wouldn't do another one.

Anyway, I thought a good sequel would be James Bond ordered by H.M.S.S. to capture or kill Jason Bourne.

I would go with the Bourne films, especially the last two. There just are not any dead moments in the films, unlike the Bond films which can be a bit tedious at times.

I will probably see any future Bourne film regardless of who stars.. Matt Damon was never the draw for me..

Actually, for that genre, I prefer the Donald Hamilton series, Matt Helm. The Dean Martin movies were a parody. Helm was ex CIA and his highest tech device was a foil covered belt buckle, which when the foil came off, was sharp and made a pretty deadly weapon. I think there were about 8 or 9 stories.
