IAAF finally saw the light and killed the 200 altogether; time to rethink the 400.
Did you notice the lane draws of the athletes in order? 1 Brenes (lane 6) 2 Pinder (lane 5) 3 Brown (lane 4) 4 Henry (lane 3) 5 Maslak (lane 2) 6 James (lane 1)
Athletes run in lane 1 in the relay and run tremedous splits so I never understand why in the individual 400m is such a problem when less than 1 lap is run in lanes. Athletes can overtake in the second half of the race; you don't have the be leading at the halfway stage.
I wouldn't have a problem with 2 finals, A and B, as they do at some of the European meetings too. I would much rather thay have done this with the 200m as well, rather than remove that completely.

I think the problem is the race relative to the competition in the other lanes, not the time and your talking about relay legs that have running starts.
At the break Kirani was even with the field. If they were running on a flat track, things would be different.

I must say I agree, I was hopin for a NR in the final but she couldn't do it. It was a big winning margin but slower than the average winning time of the last 6 Worlds, so historically not impressive.

She certainly got after it(23.7, 36.8), but no one there to help her home. She'll probably have some work to do in the relay, so it'll be interesting to see what she splits.

Im almost certain SRR has said that she has just training completely through the indoor season, not changing anything she has done in the past years. If that is the case, then running sub 51 four times is pretty amazing.
