Re: world indoor champs day 2Porter wont have to sing the british national anthem after all.
Re: World Indoor Champs Day 1I am now convinced if Pearson clears all hurdles in dat olympic final its not gonna be even close. She will win in a blowout!
Re: world indoor champs day 2
As good as I can recall. Consistent throughout the indoor season as well as with pace discipline. In addition, three distinctive and favorable races within 36 hours. Should be quite confident going forward.
Re: world indoor champs day 2
That's the main takeaway from this meet. Will be interesting to see what she splits in 4x4 tomorrow if she has to chase.
Re: world indoor champs day 2Gatlin 6.46
Carter second
Re: world indoor champs day 2Sally Pearson wins the 60m hurdles by a full 2/10s of a second - WOW!
Re: world indoor champs day 2Gatlin blows away the field to win mens 60m.
Bolt, Blake, Tyson and Asafa better watch out
Re: world indoor champs day 2Is it time to start talking Nery Brenes up as a serious medal contender for London?
Re: world indoor champs day 2Gatlin now seems a near lock for the US team and the Jamaican sweep in the 100 now seems much more remote.
Re: world indoor champs day 2
IF Gay is healthy, how insane is that mens 4x1 shaping up to be in London?
Re: world indoor champs day 2Congrats to Justin, I wanted Nester to win but Justin ran a great race.
P.S. come on now guys the Jamaicans are still ahead of the usa.The only way Bolt or Blake loses unless they false start.I dont even think Justin can beat Dix at the moment.Let's not get ahead of our selves here. Again congrats to Justin on a great race
Re: world indoor champs day 2
It doesn't matter who is on the US team. History shows that they have about a 50-50 chance of getting the baton around the track legally.
Re: world indoor champs day 2
I'm well aware of that, and normally would be right there with you. But I'm alot more confident after seeing Drummond's work with both the men and women last year.
Re: world indoor champs day 2gatlin and chambers... makes you feel quite proud about track
Re: world indoor champs day 2
Redemption is a good thing.
Re: world indoor champs day 2"special" brits .... one Gold, one silver. Van Commenee must be pleased
Re: world indoor champs day 2
The US has much more margin for error as far as depth is concerned.
Re: world indoor champs day 2Has there ever been a closer LJ competition?
Re: world indoor champs day 2Veronica's 60m heat. She didn't react well to the gun even though she won.

Re: world indoor champs day 2Are there any middle or distance fans on these boards? Don't see much evidence of it....
Re: world indoor champs day 2
Much more? Only if you go back a few years... Jam vs USA 7 vs 7 sub-10 in '11 6 vs 6 sub-10 in '10 5 vs 4 sub-10 in '09 4 vs 7 sub-10 in '08 1 vs 3 sub-10 in '07 The "much more" disappeared a while back as far as depth is concerned. In all likelyhood two sub-9.90 runners will not make the Jamaican team for the Olympics. Much congratulations to Nesta Carter for his silver medal.
Re: world indoor champs day 2VCB start sucked badly here, but her drive phase is sick. She looks a lot stronger and fitter here than she did last month. If she couldn't only get a decent start tomorrow you'll never know.
Re: world indoor champs day 2nice battles in the field events today, men's LJ within 1 cm, men's PV, women's SP and HJ, even though i am surprised chicherova didnt even make it to 201.
gatlin, pearson, eaton and sanya run out in their wins, but that 1500 looked more like short track speed skating and apollo ohno battling the koreans as opposed to track and field.
Re: world indoor champs day 2He should be given major credit for that run from lane 1. It really was amazing.ATK
agree. the difference between gold and last place in the men's 400 was the 0.02 james lost to brenes in the third semi. brenes got the best or second best lane draw in lane 6 while james got stuck in lane 1. even though there have been a few winners and medalist from lane one in the outdoor 400 no one has come even close in recent memory indoors. about 10 yrs ago the iaaf got rid of the 200 because lane 6 would get first place, lane 5 second and so forth making the final look ridiculous symmetrical around the track, in fact in one of the finals no one made a dent on their stagger. i think they should limit the size of the 400 meter fields and run 4 on each race, in lanes 3-6. i persoanally do not like the ncaa and usaft idea of two finals. however, i do like the 8 person finals the iaaf has instituted in the field events. the events finished quicker and were very competitive. the field event qualifying was much quicker too than usual.
Re: world indoor champs day 2
Me. I'm a track fan in general though.
Re: world indoor champs day 2
Oh please let's not talk relay. Usn's having such a wonderful record lately.
Re: world indoor champs day 2Sanya looks like she's close to the form she had in 2009, when she dominated the field. She shows up like that for London, she would be a serious medal contender. An individual Olympic gold medal is the only thing missing in her career and unlike with Allyson Felix, Sanya will most likely focus on one event.
Re: world indoor champs day 2
In short, no. Brenes has always had a ton of ability. I have given up hope waiting for him to be consistent and preform in major championships. Having said that this is an Olympic year so who knows. Like I said he has the ability. Here is the race http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7HUzTB9I-A
You realize how foolish of a comment that is, right? Do we have to get the stats?
Re: world indoor champs day 2Kirani made a huge tactical misstep in the semifinals. It might boil down to that, but he knew that the inside lane was bad before the semifinal.
Re: world indoor champs day 2
Personally, I think indoor 400ms are CRAP, but to be politically correct I would say Kirani is a young 400m runner and this event he competed in is a 2x200m event...two different kettles of fish. I am just glad he didnt get himself injured in that ridiculous race.
Re: world indoor champs day 2much as I detest time finals, I'm coming around to thinking that the NCAA has it right in running a pair of 4-man sections. When a dude the quality of James ends up in lane 1 (I know, HIS fault, such as it might be) and finishes 8th, you know that it's just not a fair competition.
IAAF finally saw the light and killed the 200 altogether; time to rethink the 400.
Re: world indoor champs day 2
We are agreeing on something here, aren't we...
Re: world indoor champs day 2
She went 2.02 in Albuquerque 2 weeks ago. But you are right, a terrific win. This was Chicherova's first result of the season under 2m. But she has only the one 2.06 from Arnstadt that's higher than Lowe's 2.02. I was quite impressed by Ebba Jungmark who is now clearly Sweden's #1. She matched Chicherova jump for jump. She won the indoor NCAA a few years ago when she was at Washington State. But she is a much better now then she was then. She is Sweden's best competitive jumper right now. The Swedish male HJers have dropped off to a quite astonishing degree. They are currently the weakest in Scandinavia. BTW Finland had no competitors in Istanbul, (couldn't even send Evila) Norway had 1, Sweden had 3 and I believe Denmark had 1.
Re: world indoor champs day 2
i didn't call anything merely pointed out that Sanya often (way too often) flatters to deceive in rounds. I'm glad she put it all together today against a rather sub par field. Let's see what happens in the summer.
