Ever since 2009 when she made her big break through she has been running indoor. In fact her best season to date (2009) she ended that season with the fastest 60m time for that season (7.11). I know it is relatively early in the indoor season but I have not heard anything about her running any indoor meet, I would think this would be a good tune up or 'check' at least to see where she's at compared to other season.
I would imagine that if she intended to, she would have already competed in the US at least once by now.

I wouldn't think too much into it. Veronica is a 10.76 runner who will blaze the curve in London similar to however she did it in Athens, Beijing, and daeuge.

That really is a huge PB taking into consideration her previous PB was 7.32. All that being said though that PB was back in 2004 and it'd be a bit concerning (knowing that she is a sub-11 and a sub-22 runner) if she couldn't break into 7.1x at least. I am really impressed though, to be 7.10 and then 7.11 in her first two indoor races is impressive especially with the knowledge that her starts are usually as weak as they are. Pity we don't have any times for her in the 60m in 2007/2008 years to compare by which were her best seasons in my honest opinion.
I haven't seen the race yet but either VCB underperformed or Felix is closing the gap on her in the first couple meters of the race. A 0.03 lead over Felix in the first 60m to me isn't all too comforting for anyone believe knowing Felix's history of running people down in the last half of the race in both the 100 and the 200. That's more than enough striking distance for Felix IMHO >_>. Judging from her RT it seems VCB didn't react all too well to the gun so that could account for another 0.50 off her time maybe...

WRONG! Felix running 7.10 is HUGE! The fact that she also ran 7.11 gives me MORE promise for her than for VCB. This can't be understated! Based upon that 7.11, that backs up the 7.10, versus ANYTHING that VCB has done this season, the favor for Olympic 200m gold, as of right now, favors Allyson Felix.

I wouldn't say that point blank... A number of other factors should be looked at.... For one, we don't know Felix's 60m in 2007/2008 to really gauge by. I would think she would also have PB'd majorly in those years if she ran the 60m. Also, VCB RT was very much off in that race from and her start mechanics have been inconsistent for a while now so this could be one of those races. And finally, executing on the curve and on a straight are quite different, VCB has mastered that art... I'm not so sure Felix has though.
This is good for VCB now she will get her crap together. Her start needs fixting .If not then give up the 100 and focus on the 200 where she can make history.I am glad that she lost this race. She hates losing so I am sure the next time you see her on the track she will be a lot better.
can you not just enjoy the sport and think about just once making a post that isn't contentious? This is a place for civilized discussion, not pissing matches.
If Madison's form holds through to 100m, she's shaping up as one of the breakthrough stories of the season. (how great a story would a world LJ champ coming back 7 years later to win an Oly sprint medal be?!)
As I mentioned over on the Tyson thread, Madison looks to have lost some muscle weight, and looks as sleek as I've ever seen her(and I've been watching her since HS here in Ohio). I don't think I'd be too concerned that she'll lose much in those final 40 meters. Assuming she stays healthy I would be very surprised if she doesnt go sub-11 outdoors(current PR 11.05 - 2009)
Felix is a 200/400/100 [e.g. optimal distance is ~280m] athlete while VCB is a 200/100 athlete [optimal distance is ~160m]. 7.10/7.11 in her first two races of the year are like VCB running 51 or so indoors.
It is waaayyy early by my prior have adjusted at this point to narrow much of the gap in the likelihood of each winning the 200 (e.g., 50% VCB, 40%AF, 10% Jeter).

After watching the final, a legitimate argument could be made that the strongest part of Madison's race was the final 20m
I concur. I am sure she and her coach will now be working on a plan for her make the top 3 at the US Trials. I believe she can do it based on what we have seen so far.
I figured she would get a huge pb, she hasn't run the race in a long time. Anyone *cough* Guru *cough* who actually thought 7.32 (a time she ran in 2004) was any sort of dictation of how well she would do here is obviously dim.

As usual, you're wrong. I said it would be a concern if she didnt run faster than that 7.32. Nowhere did I say she wouldn't.
edit: And, it should be noted, I was quick to praise her on a fine personal effort
I've not seen the race, can anyone tell me how Felix ran; did she start well or have a late surge?
A 7.10 and 7.11 for Felix certainly sounds good. The key is how close she is to the shorter sprint specialists though, not the time. To put Felix, as a 200m specialist, in context with other such 200m specialists: Jayasinghe has run 7.09 over 60m as has lanky Hurtis. European level 100m sprinters, i.e 11.0+ women, have run in the same range: Paschke 7.09; Gaevert 7.10, Bangue 7.11. So the time itself is something that Felix should be running.
It's the 3/100ths behind VCB, a 10.76 woman and her main challenger, that is the interesting part here. However, this is just one race, and who knows what each of these women is working on at the moment or where they are in training. It's a shame we wont see them meet up at this distance again, so it remains a tantalising teaser for now.
Oh, I do agree with the earlier poster than 60m over the straight is very different to 60m on the curve.
Both VCB and Felix had poor starts, Felix climbing out of the blocks while VCB just looked like she was in the wrong position. It's hard to tell from the TV angle, even from the replays, but on the one it looks like Felix was well behind them all then came storming through, but on another it looks like VCB is behind Felix Either way, both had good surges towards the end of the race...but Madison just looked superb.
