Junior Shot Put '13Re: Junior Male Shot Putters 2012 [A Miller 20.17m]Venna? I don't like writing anyone off at 18/19 years of age, it's about passion, choices and luck, ie not having a career ending injury.
I remember a few years ago there was a big tall kid running crazy times in the quarter mile at 15/16, they reckoned he could break Micheal Johnson's record then he started partying and they said he was gone, doesn't even run the quarter anymore, heard he took up the hundred though, they called him the lightening bolt.... You never know..

His non-throwing shoulder by the way.

Re: Junior Male Shot Putters 2012 [A Miller 20.17m]Crouser's not a Junior anymore, but the 66-07 was accompanied by a 66-06 as well.
Re: Junior Male Shot Putters 2012 [A Miller 20.17m]
Should we post these in the 2011 thread?
Re: Junior Male Shot Putters 2012Krzysztof Brzozowski won the national junior title with 20.62, ahead of Andrzej Regin 18.77 and Dawid Krzyzan 18.60
Re: Junior Male Shot Putters 2012 [A Miller 20.17m]
Yeah, what do you do with Crouser given that he is 19 years and barely 1 month at this point, but had he been 2 weeks overdue he would still be a junior. This also came up with prodigal distance runners Alan Webb and Dathan Ritzenhein. Webb was only10 days younger than Ritz, but that was enough to make him junior eligible while Ritzenhein had to settle for running with the big boys.

Re: Junior Male Shot Putters 2012 [A Miller 20.17m]
And Withrow was born about Xmas day; a week later and he, not Rupp, would have had the 5000m (I think) record.
Re: Junior Male Shot Putters 2012 [A Miller 20.17m]
And it's like so what? Maybe the rules should be amended in some way because it does seem a bit unfair that someone born on 31 December misses out on a whole year's (minus a day) worth of opportunities to set records that someone born a day later has the opportunity to break. And speaking of Jacko he is thowing this eveving in Christchurch - but in the discuss. I will report as soon as I know what he does. If Jacko had been born 2 weeks later he would be elgible this year to still compete as a youth - but he wasn't and so he isn't.
Re: Junior Male Shot Putters 2012 [Brzozowski 20.62m 67'8 6koops - sorry everybody. The Christchurch international meet is next weekend
Re: Junior Male Shot Putters 2012 [Brzozowski 20.62m 67'8 6kSome of these are no longer U20 juniors. I'll weed it out as information comes in.

Re: Junior Male Shot Putters 2012
Actually, Brzozowski is still a glider, although he's started learning the spin and is still talking of switching in the future. And here's a video of his 20.62 NJR: http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=3Nd ... =endscreen There's also an interview with him on the Polish federation's YT channel, where he says he was a bit disappointed with his performance, since he hoped for 21+. He will also be competing in the national champs in the senior category in 3 weeks, and wants to get over 19 meters there.

Re: Junior Male Shot Putters 2012 [Brzozowski 20.62m 67'8 6kHee Hee, an 8 rep pb before a meet, and discus training, like Bolt this young man makes his own rules..
Re: Junior Male Shot Putters 2012 [Brzozowski 20.62m 67'8 6kI'm surprised this guy hasn't progressed more. Brzozowski threw very far with the 5kg, having thrown 23.23 in 2010 I reckoned that would have been the equivalent of 21m with the 6kg, and 2011 20.91 was less than i imagined him to be capable of, 2061 is less I believe than he could have thrown in 2010.
interesting remark, still a glider, well is Storl still a glider, or Whiting still a rotater? or Gill still a rotater? is there some suggestion than it is a more useful technique for throwing far, How far would Jacko throw if he was a glider? The meet in Poland with the big guys throwing heavy and light shots was interesting.
Re: Junior Male Shot Putters 2012 [Brzozowski 20.62m 67'8 6k
The reason I said he is still a glider is that he has been talking of switching to the spin, as I said in my post. In the interview I saw recently, he also said he believed the spin is the better technique for him in the long run, and he intends to work on it.
Re: Junior Male Shot Putters 2012 [Brzozowski 20.62m 67'8 6kAthletics: Adams and Gill ready for clash of champions
Jacko has decided to enter the shot tomorrow in Christchurch as well as the discus. http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/ar ... d=10783041 With young Tom Walsh also competing it will be interesting to see how close he can get to 20m. As for Jacko there has been no announcement as to what weight he will use.

Re: Junior Male Shot Putters 2012 [Brzozowski 20.62m 67'8 6kFirst reports coming out of Christchurch:
Jacko Gill - 22.06m (weight class not published) Valerie Adams - 20.35m Will update when I know more
Re: Junior Male Shot Putters 2012 [Brzozowski 20.62m 67'8 6k
I believe Adams threw the 4k shot and Gill tossed the 6k ball.
Re: Junior Male Shot Putters 2012 [Brzozowski 20.62m 67'8 6k"Training's been going really well. I've been mixing it up with some 8k and some 7k [runs] and just working on the weights side of things. I'm obviously not as strong [as the older competitors]. I don't push it too much, but I've decided to work on that," he said. I see that they managed to get their athletics correspondent to sub this piece. Excellent, I was wondering what distances Jacko had been running in training.

Re: Junior Male Shot Put 2012Wasn't the acceptance speech but even better a 4 plus minute interview on Morning Report which I hadn't seen before.
One of the things that was interesting from the interview was that Jacko confirmed what a complete lot of dickheads we have running athletics in New Zealand. Jacko confirmed that he was given a dispensation to compete as a senior at the NZ National championships. Wow!! What a bunch of far sighted officials we have in NZ to give the national senior record holder, the 2nd best senior shot putter in the Commonwealth and the most outrageously prodigious shot putting talent in the world, maybe history, a dispensation to expose himself to the undoubeted harmful risks of competing against seniors who are a metre or two or more worse than him. Can you imagine that in the 21st century the NZ Athletics bosses decided to take a lead from the IAAF who prevented Jacko from competing at Daegu by introducing a special and more restrictive rule to protect. "We need to prevent any athlete under the age of 19 competing in the NZ national champs." Athletics NZ Sports Manager, Brett Addison says it is necessary to have the rule to protect young athletes from over enthusiastic parents. Yep gotta protect Jacko from his parents Walter and Nerida. The IAAF and Olympic bosses will happily let this abused 17 year old compete at the Olympics this year but here in NZ we are gonna protect our national senior record holder from all of those mean and aggressive senior shot putters we have here in NZ. Jacko talks about young Joshua Hawkins. Like Jacko he is 17 years old as well. Last year he won a silver at the World Youths runnng 13.44 in the 110mH. The NZ leader this year for the Open Mens 110mH has run 14.76. Joshua can't run at the NZ nationals in the Open Men senior hurdles because he must be protected from all of those inferior older hurdlers - and from his hopelesly over enthusiastic parents.
