USC has a slew of sub 46.5 guys there right now, if Nellums could get back to who he was, they could be a major factor in that NCAA 4x4. I don't see Nellums as a threat in the open 400m.

Nellum ran 46.74 to win in Norwalk a couple of weekends back.

I think Woods still tied up by football.

Bryshon Nellum figures to be counted on a lot this weekend in the USC-UCLA rivalry dual meet. USC will need all the points he can give them, particularly in the 200m, an event where all 9 points are up for grabs.

There are a couple of dope/projections here:

BRYSHON NELLUM just finished 3rd in the 400m final at PAC 10 meeting in 45.56, which I think is a "Post-Shooting" PR.
Oregon FR Mike Berry won with a big PR of 44.91

Nellums' fastest time since July '07, fourth fastest of career.

A great tribute to a guy sticking with it through many years of adversity.

USC does have a realistic shot at the 4x4 winning silver at the NCAA's. If they can run Nellums, Hughes, Mance and Wyatt they could even break the USC school record. That foursome is superior to the group now holding the record. I don't see them beating a healthy Tex A&M team. Mississippi State has a solid team also.

USC's biggest problem is they have not run consistently against the top competition and they are not use to the crowd of people that will be next to them bumping, possibly knocking the baton out, having to step around people, or coming into the exchange and positioning themselves for a good handoff.

The Trojans do have three Cali State 400M Champs. All have had to deal with pressure situations before. I do get what you're saying, I hope what you described isn't a problem.

We recently saw Texas A&M women get the baton knocked out of there hand because they weren't paying attention. I bet that won't happen the rest of the season. It helped them being in that close competition that it happened.

GH, if my memory serves, they have a potential 4x4 team that includes that last *six* California 400m champs - Nellum ('05-'06-'07), Hughes ('08), Wyatt ('09), and Mance ('10). Current eligibility has a frosh, two sophs, and a junior.

They have run 3:03+ both with and without Nellum, but if he can progress and approach low-45 form by the nationals, he will likely remain on the team.

In the NCAA regional prelims 400m, Nellum just pulled up violently on the back straight. That looked like a season-ender and kills any hope for USC's 4x4 to challenge Texas A&M et al. Poor dude can't catch a break.

!@#$%^&*
This guy I was thinking back in 2007 would be the 2-4 guy with Blake being the 1-2 guy. Was looking forward to a great rivalry. Great clash at Penn that year in the 4x400 HSB COA.
DAMN!! Really like this guy and hope he comes back (but doubting it)

I watched him after the race was over and while he wasn't exactly skipping, he was able to leave the track under his own power. Looked like there might be a chance if SC can get through Saturday's heat, that Nellum could run in Des Moines.

SC ran a 3:03 at Austin without Nellum, so they have a backup who should not only be able to get them through the weekend, but keep them pretty competitive in two weeks.

Still, will we ever see the Nellum to whom we were looking forward back in '07? You never know. The Harrisons dropped out of sight for a couple years after high school and came back to success, so anything's possible. Of course, there's also the William Reed story . . . . . .

Some of us think that the Harrisons story ended up worse than the William Reed story...

Woods is all in for football, as he should be. Unlikely we will see him on the track again. (Ditto for Farmer, and Lee is probably in his last ever meet this weekend in Clovis.)

If Nellum is out, SC already has a pretty good replacement. Walker, I'm thinking is the name?

With Nellum in with Mance, Wyatt and Hughes the Trojans did have a great shot at hanging with Tex A&M. Without Nellum I don't see that.

USC should be the team to beat in the 4x400. The "elite" 400 mtrs guys they have on their roster. I know there are a few injuries here & there, but the power USC have in the 400 is ridiculous. I hope someone step up & fight against A&M this season because the way it looks so far, they are going to run away with the 4x400 title.

Nellum apparently had another surgery last August which has reduced the ongoing pain he was having in a nerve (as a result of the shooting).

Great to see this 45.18 PR for him, a few tenths faster than his high school days, but he looked to be in control out in lane 8. Fellow USC sprinter Hughes pulled up though with an apparent hamstring injury in the same race at MtSAC, so that may impact their upcoming NCAA relay chances.

Nellum 2013: I'm glad to see Bryshon continuing his progress this season. He won the Florida Relays in early April with a 45.54. Also, this past weekend he finally broke his 200 PR (20.43 in 2007, his H.S. PR) in the UCLA-USC meet, running 20.37 (0.9). After everything he's been thru, I hope this return of speed is a good sign of things to come.
