Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time
Rats! Called out when time is tight. I've toyed with this but get hung up on how to construct my list: Greatest I've known of, greatest I've seen, greatest I've met, or just plain favorites, but with what linking? What to do, what to do. I keep coming back to multiple lists, but that's time . . . Maybe it comes down to a list of the people who I most wanted to watch or read about, in some way the most influential. Has Flumpy set any deadlines?
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time
To much thinking. Just get drunk and you'll have it done in no time.
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time
I agree. Sit down with a dry martini and go!
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All TimeTook me all of five minutes to come up with a list last week. Probably took me longer to look through it and provide this summary:
13 Males, 7 Females representing every continent on the planet (and 10 different countries). (Roughly) 7 sprint/hurdlers, 5 distance, 4 throwers, 3 multis, 1 jumper (should probably have had a walker in..) And the eras span from the 1930s to today, with about half the list competing before I was born. And I reckon about five of my names won't get one vote from anyone else on the board..
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time
I'm quite confident your Antarctican was on no one else's list . . .
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time
That's what I should have done. I pretty much shared dj's problem. The more thinking I did the more I realized I needed a top 40 list at least. I was never a greater fan than I was in my early and middle teens and that's clear from my list. But still I had to leave out athletes I absolutely idolized. The more I think about it the less happy I am with my list but I'm just going to let it go.
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time14 Distance Runners (including mid-distance)
7 Women 3-4 Field Events Mostly Americans, but partly because some of them are personal.
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Timeoh crap.... i can't believe i left Dwight Stones off my list!
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time
What the hell. I forgot Nehemiah!
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time19 men, 1 woman, 1 Canadian
5 Finns, 5 Americans, 3 Soviets, 2 Brits, 1 from a number of other countries 11 track, 8 field, 1 walker 3 current athletes 7 from before WW2
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All TimeNo deadline at the moment, i haven't done my list yet. I'll give everyone warning when it's going to close but i want to get as many entrants as possible to make it work, or we'll just get loads of athletes with one vote and the winner will only have recieved 4 !! which isn't much of a mandate to b e T&FN Favourite Athlete of All TIme
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All TimeMy list goes back about 20 years, names I was watching.
Most people on here are from US and UK and seems that has a big role in choosing the names.I don`t think many names from my list will make the top(except few) but I hope you received it Mumpy

Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All TimeMy list is on it's way. I made my decision mainly based on which athletes I like/d to watch compete; whether that be because they were/are fantastic or for pure entertainment/filth reasons

Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All TimeWhat decade were my picks from? Let's see...
0 from the 60s or earlier 5 from the 70s 7 from the 80s 8 from the 90s 11 from the 00s 4 from the 10s plenty of overlap between decades of course 14 men and 6 women I stuck to favorites that had a significant amount of world level success (I think everyone on the list has at least a world championship medal), and to favorites I have seen and cheered for while they were active.
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All TimeHow many entries so far?
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All TimeIt might be a monumental task, but once the deadline ( if there is one) is reached, hopfully our OP will list ALL nominees with their collective votes, in descending order.
I am pretty sure who will be last, or tied for last, as I voted for myself. Or maybe I will make someone else's list ?! Quite doubtful !
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Timethat's the plan
every one will be ranked firstly by number of votes and then by position of votes (total points) You will get 20 poiints for a first place on someone's list and 1 point for 20th BUT having 20 points from 1 person is worse than having 2 points from 2 people so the ranking will go in reverse order people with 1 vote from 1 point to 20 points (if there are any) people with 2 votes etc etc the winner will be the person with the most votes not necessarily the one with the most points, as it is possible for someone to have more points but less votes. If there are a number of athletes who tie on the same amount of votes in the final then it will be down to points ] i hope it all makes sense. As soon as i start posting results i'm sure it will all become clear. I will start off post a few results a day but as we get lower i will probably just do one a day so we can discuss each one. When the final result has been announced i will then post everone's individual list for discussion and if i ever get round to it i'll work out favourite by event, country etc i think it may keep us busy well into next year
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All TimeYou must have a lot of time on your hands.
