T&FN Favourite Athletes THE RESULTS No1 Haile GebrselassieRe: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All TimeWhy do yall hate women ??
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time
Hey, I had at least six women
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time
And my one and only is a woman!
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time
You ask people for their opinion and then you act the ass. Sorry I got involved.
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time
I have to say that I share this sentiment. If you only wanted YOUR favorites, you could have spared us the time & trouble.
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time
Sensitive, much? You guys are acting like Mump crashed his car into a bus full of nuns holding babies
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time
Hilarious. Nice to be accused of sexism in a rather stupid pointless thread.
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time
I don't! And next I am going to run a poll of your favourite posters here. Time to be nice everyone.
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All TimeHad to double check my list.
Evenly split men and women! And number 21 would have been a woman!
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time
Enough ball-busting on what was an innocent (and germane) question, please.

Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All TimeWow you lot are touchy !!
It was a light hearted comment about the lack of women in some people's choices, there's not need to get so defensive (unless you're feeling guilty There will be a lot of discussion after all the results are announced so be ready to defend your choices Thanks for all the entries the more we get the better the whole exercise will work.
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All TimeAlso if you genuinly don't have any preference between your 1-20 then fine but don't forget your placement will reflect in the final rankings.
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All TimeMy list shows a lot of personal bias, as it should, since it is my list. Some break-down.
9 men, 11 women 1 active athlete (a woman) 12 track, 7 field, 1 both 5 from pre-1960's 8 Americans, 3 Czechs, 2 Slovaks, 1 Pole, 1 Cuban, 1 French, 1 Russian, 1 Ethiopian, 1 German, 1 born Czech>becoming an American by marriage. Just like some others, many names on my list I could easily exchanged for pretty much equal favorites.
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time14 men, 6 women
2 active athletes (both men) 16 track, 3 field, 1 both 0 from pre-1960's 4 UK, 4 US, 3 Jamaica, 2 Kenya, 2 Ethiopia and one each from Germany, Czechoslovakia, France, Brazil, NZ Last edited by Daisy on Mon Nov 28, 2011 6:42 am, edited 1 time in total.
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time
That's OK. Kuha balances you out with 18 from the 1800s!
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All TimeMarlow, let's not forget Lonewolf, Avante and Conor. I think the balance is tipped heavily in the opposite direction to me
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time
No, only 2 from that era, but I should have made it 3...
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All TimeThe idiosyncratic nature of this list made it fun. Favorites, my own criteria. Just started listing names and came up with 31. Wasn't too hard to separate the top 20 from the others. I'm curious to see what names will pop up often. On my list, probably more Kenyans, more 80s athletes, more multi-eventers, more marathoners than on others.
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All TimeMy breakdown;
5 men, 15 women 8 active, 12 inactive (I'm unsure about two, who might be attempting comebacks next year) 14 track and road, 6 field and multi-eventers Mid-1970s onwards 4 Brits, 4 Romanians, 5 Russians, the rest - a scatter
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time12 women ,8 men. 1 Canadian.
11 are still active.
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All TimeJust sent mine.
10 men, 10 women. 4 active, 16 retired. 10 distance, 9 sprint/hurdle/LJ. 1 multi. 6 Americans, 2 Brits, 2 Finns, one each from 10 other countries.

Good one, great competitive record.
Even as a brit I would have been struggling to remember her. There has to be a side story here ?
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time

Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All TimeJust sent my list. Could have easily listed 30 athletes, had real trouble whittling it down to 20 (especially going from 21 to 20!) but I got there in the end.

Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time
You are warm. Though I am not trying to imply anything.
Re: T&FN Forum Official Favourite Athlete of All Time
This is exactly why such a "favorites" poll has such potential interest: the enduring meaning that largely forgotten athletes might have to individual fans. It's absolutely not the case that favorites should be merely the names with the most Olympic gold medals. What a deadly dull sport that would be.
