Bingo!

He also ran on a stud 4x1 team while at Oregon, fellow NFLer Mel Renfro and the great Harry Jerome were also on that team. Tarr did little as an NFLer.

Right after I posted that I though....hmm...Bo Roberson or James Lofton? Lofton did have the better PR but as we know Roberson was an Oly silver medalist. Yep...Bo Roberson.

Calling Lofton a Raider is akin to calling Favre a Jet or (horrors) a Viking :wink: .

Yes Lofton will always be a Green Bay Packer. He did however wear the silver and black also. The Raiders did have a ton of tracksters come thru there sometime in their NFL career.

Check it out...

long jump

James Lofton
Bo Roberson
Dokie Williams

110hh's

Willie Gault
Rod Woodson
Tyrone Wheatley

sprinters

Cliff Branch
Bo Jackson
Alexander Wright
James Jett
Stanford Routt
Alvis Whitted
Justin Fargas
Nap Kaufman
Tim Dwight
Ron Brown
Sam Graddy
James Trapp

400m

Terry McDaneils
Rod Barksdale

No NFL team compares to that.

Yeah, and they're paying for it mightily as the senile Mr. D continues to think he can win today with 1960's thinking.

Exactly!

The most recent reach to get a speedster is Darrius Heyward Bey and his 4.3 40 yard time.

Has to be Lofton, doesn't it? 27+

The Raiders (my Raiders) have certainly had some track teams. Not working for them these days.

When I think of "da Raiders" it's speedy Warren Wells blowing by everyone catching another long bomb from Daryl "The Mad Bomber" Lamonica. Then there's Clemon Daneils their first 1000 yard rusher and Hewritt Dixon a power back ripping off chunks of yardage. Wells, Daneils and Dixon all coming out of HBCU schools. Which we saw a lot of in the old AFL. Somebody in the AFL knew about Grambling, Florida A&M, Prairie View, Texas Southern etc etc.

Yes as of "right now" if there is a worst....owner/coach/QB combo... in the league....who?

Maybe you could do me a favor. I've always (back in the day) read where Warren Wells was a 9.4 guy while at Texas Southern. Yes he might have been, he showed that kind of speed. Does T&FN have that info?

Helps to be a long-time Giants fan. Sure you'll appreciate this, Avante. I watched Henry Carr chase (in vain) Bob Hayes on a long touchdown pass-play when the Cowboys played the Giants at Yankee Stadium.

I know what play you're talking about. We always see it anytime Bob Hayes is brought up. Right down the near sideline with the defender diving around the 10 or so. That wasn't Carr, that was Carl" Spider"Lockhart who was a hurdler in his college days. If it had been a movie then it would have been Clarence Childs chasing him. Childs was on the Giants then and was a db, he also was a Florida &M alum. Hayes broke his sprint records (or so I read somewhere) while there. Childs was a sprinter.....9.4?

The Giants did have the only two sprinters in the NFL to ever beat Hayes. Carr having done it the 200m and the other was.......????

I do recall seeing Hayes run down once (carrying a ball obviously makes a bit of difference); right around 1970. Kenny Ellis of Green Bay (think he went to Southern U; no recollection of him as a track guy). I remember starting at the TV in disbelief.

Yep! He beat him in an NAIA 200m. Now what is Homer Jones best known for?

I know my memory is fading, but this appeared in the Hayes obituary in the Dallas News. "The New York Giants saw that same cannon shot twice on a football field. New York had the one defender in the NFL capable of running with Mr. Hayes - cornerback Henry Carr, his former Olympic teammate who won the 200-meter dash at those same Tokyo Games.

But Mr. Carr couldn't run with him on this day in 1965. Mr. Hayes beat Mr. Carr to the ball for a catch, then beat him in an amazing sprint to the goal line for a touchdown.

"He just ran away from him," Mr. Brandt recalled. "It was a one-horse race. Hayes was like Secretariat out there."

Then there's.......

paste..

Hayes was 29 when the Cowboys finally won the Super Bowl following the 1971 season, becoming the only person to win an Olympic gold medal and Super Bowl ring. It was his last big year as he averaged 24 yards a catch and scored eight touchdowns.

Staubach still remembers an 85-yarder the two hooked up on late that season at Yankee Stadium against the Giants.

“It was like a 35-yard pass,” Staubach said. “He caught the ball at midfield. Spider Lockhart was on him. Bob took off like a rocket. Spider was a very quick safety, but he was 5 or 6 yards behind him when Bob crossed the goal line. That’s how fast Bob was. He could just put it into another gear.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you recall the guy chasing Hayes was number 43 not 28
http://www.footballcardgallery.com/1970 ... -Lockhart/
Then again just talking Hayes and Carr as Cowboys and Giants....cool :D
I have nothing against the spike, per se, but it did lead to today's over-the-top celebrations, in which I have no interest. Instead, he should be best known for having the highest average gain per reception, career (200 receptions): 22 yards.
