I'd only glanced at that IAAF report last weekend, but I've just read it properly. Keitany went through 10km in 30:39 (the sixth fastest clocking for a road 10km EVER), and went through 15km in 46:40, which is a WORLD BEST! It's one second quicker than what Paula clocked at the GNR in 2003, and is 11 seconds faster than her own en-route 15km split in Birmingham earlier this month.
She might be a world champ and a world record-holder, but Keitany is definitely one of the best unsung athletes of the year.
This thread should be split, as this performance (and Keitany) deserves way more attention. |

Thanks to mods for splitting this.
Lopen - yes, I wouldn't be surprised if Keitany soon broke the WRs for 10km and the HM. |

Is she related to 1,500m runner Haron Keitany? |

I wouldn't be surprised if she goes to London this coming spring and runs 2:18:xx. |

Which is why 2:18 might just be on par with her strategy. If she tries to go 2:15-2:16 pace early, she'll pay for it and slow to 2:18 or 2:19. |

| Thanks. If she does manage to build a good comeback she's as good a candidate for '12 as any. As I recall it the list of women who have beaten Mizuki Noguchi in a marathon is pretty short...? |

If I'm honest I think Noguchi's career is pretty much finished. Her career path has alarmingly followed the pattern of Takahashi and a lot of other Japanese marathoners who have really struggled to produce great longevity.
As for Keitany, I don't really want to make predictions about how she does at the marathon. Running fast at 10km and the half-marathon doesn't always translate to the full marathon distance - just as Kiplagat, Chepkemei, Kibet, Masai etc. |

| Come on, a bit more optimistic outlook please. If these boards still exist in '12 I don't want the main topic during the women's marathon to be how totally a top-form Joan Benoit would dominate everyone today. |
