Has a Teen Ever Won a USA Outdoor Title?

Sanya Richards & Allyson Felix each have a great shot of winning titles next weekend. Sanya, 400. Allyson, 200. When was the last time, if ever, a female junior won a U.S. outdoor title? Especially in the sprints?

A teen/junior, as the original post asked. Her DOB is August 29, 1945. She would have been 19 when she won her first Olympic gold medal in the 100 (1964) and 18 when she won her first national title that same year in the same event.

Bob Mathias won the 1948 AAU decathlon championship. I believe he was only a junior in high school. Of course, he won the Olympic
gold medal in London later that year.

Betty Robinson at age 16 became first USA woman to win an Olympic event, the 100-meter dash at Amsterdam on 31 July 1928.

Mathias was a senior in '48. Graduated from Stanford in '53 because he had a prep year at Kiski Prep in Pennsylvania in '49.

Betty did not win her first US outdoor title until 1929, however.

Kathy McMillan won the AAU long jump in 1976 (22-3) -- the same year she graduated from Hoke County HS in North Carolina. Later that summer she won a silver medal in Montreal.

Did Ted Meredith win a national title at the 400 while a teen? He did win the gold in the 800 while a HS'er (1:51.9 in 1912). Not a bad time for a HS runner today.

He won the 1914 & 1915 440 yard titles, 50 1/5 & 47 respectively. He never won an 880 US title.
