Whether it was 6 million, 5.4 million (a more precise figure that I've read) or some other figure, what difference does it make? Once you get into the millions, why quibble over a few hundred thousand. Pol Pot killed 3 million while Stalin is supposed to be responsible for the death of 20 million. All of these men were equally evil in my book. Even if some day in the future, reputable historians revised the six million figure down to five million, I don't think it would lessen the significance of the Holocaust.

Eggsactly- imagine someone saying Stalin is worse than Hitler cause Hitler only killed 5-6 million. They are both equal monsters. Hitler would have killed a billion Jews if he had the opportunity.
Hey in a sense Stalin was worse than Hitler but the history books only recognize Hitler and his evil deeds,Stalin was reponsible for the deaths of 40 million innocent people but no one talks about it in the same fashion as they would Hitler.

There is a lot of things, people believe. Flat earth, time travel, all sorts of nonsense. Williams is a Holocaust denier that got the Pope a lot of heat. As jazzcyclist said, 6 million, or 5 makes no difference in judging the monstrosity of it. Williams denies, it ever happened.

Obama said in his speech that we shouldn't be prisoners to the past we shouldn't forget it either someone once said"Those who forget the past are bound to repeat it" and "If you don't know your past you will not know your future"Both statements were made by MLK Jr.

Stalin never singled out a group of people based on their nationality, or religion. He eliminated those that were considered "class enemies". You'd better do some research before you start delivering sweeping opinions.

It was interesting how Stalin thought he could rewrite history. Especially cutting people out of photo's when they fell out of favour. May be xcfan is reading Stalin's autobiography? I expect he paints himself as a good guy.

Trust me Squackee I'am not painting Stalin as a good guy anything but.He was a control freak as is the case with anyone in his position if he felt you were against him you were eliminated point blank as Daisy's aforementioned photos show.

There is several reasons for this. Stalin's atrocities mostly took place before WWII. Stalin did not start the war, the Soviet Union was attacked by Hitler just as most of Europe was.

It became a public knowledge after Stalin's death. Khrushchov was the one spilling the beans. Stalin died in 1953, the revelation came about a year or two later. Maybe late, but still quite some time ago.

Yes Churchill is the one he's commited atrocities that the history books deny and paint him as the so-called good guy ask people of arab background about Churchill and they will paint a different picture of the man who made the victory sign famous. There's a dvd called www.whywefight.com it will show what Churchill was really like.

Neither. Read the article that is now linked to my first post. It was written by a non US citizen who was raised in socialist Russia and is commenting about how it appears our country is headed for the disaster his country went through and is trying to recover from.

It is a sobering review for someone who has no US political ties.

No doubt, I have seen it.

I spent a month in one of the former Soviet Union states last year. I have seen with my own eyes what socialism can do. It is not pretty.

The theories behind it sound good, etc., as someone early on in this thread tried to state in so many words using Biblical quotes. Problem is, it fails miserably in practice, and the populations as a whole are left poorer off than they would have been otherwise. It took the Soviet people 70 years to realize that.

I am not a citizen of the USA, so technically, I have no vote here.
But as a citizen of the World, I am so glad that Obama is the president.
He is a brilliant man, not just in intellect, but in spirit. And if his reaching out to the rest of the World does not work out, then nothing will.
As for this socialist/capitalist rhetoric, it means nothing to me. Most of the other Western democracies have moved to a position which is cognizant of the need to blend private and public interests, and most of these Nations rank far above the USA in terms of the various International rankings as to how governments are meeting the needs of their citizens in areas such as education, health care, environment, etc. Listening to Palin and Gingrich and Limbaugh lately just clarifies the debate for me... However, I still love you, Wolfie...:)

Well, I lived under communist rule in Czechoslovakia for 20 years and I can tell you one thing. There is no comparison in what's going on in USA right now with the Soviet style rule.

Well, I lived under communist rule in Czechoslovakia for 20 years and I can tell you one thing. There is no comparison in what's going on in USA right now with the Soviet style rule.

We should all be very humble, as i am, that we have a gentleman here who has lived it.

Education: I think we spend quite a bit on this already. We need to listen to our teachers!

Health Care: Its bankrupt.

Environment: General Electric

Can you imagine if ExxonMobil owned Fox News??? What kind of corruption theories would have been flying around during the Bush Admin.?

GE + NBC + White House = a whole lotta money!

There's a big difference between communism, such as what existed in the now defunct U.S.S.R., and socialism, what exists in Sweden today.

And an equal difference between Sweden and the USA!

As I've said before, I count communists, socialists and other radicals among my friends. In no way, shape or form do they consider Obama a socialist - once they've stopped laughing at the idea.

dal4018,

Every time you have stepped into this thread you have been forced to backtrack because of a gaping lack of actual knowledge. I would suggest you retire from this one.
