Should USATF put Mo on Paris 100 team?

Postby dl » Tue Jun 17, 2003 12:32 pm

Mo apparently not running even one round of the 100 at USATF, unlike Eugene '01, when he only ran one round. Should USATF still put him on the team for Paris? What do you think?

This was discussed earlier. As long as he shows up and runs a round, he's got a wild card entry, so yes, he will go. He is listed as an entrant at the USATF site.

No, you misread the post, Mo now says he's not running ANY rounds of the 100.

Yes. He should get a free ride. So should the fastest American in every event, previous world champ or not. US champs should only pick a runner or two for each event.

Since the fastest runner gets no bye, apparently David Krummenaker is out of USATF and WC this year due to a strained hamstring. See www.letsrun.com front page.

Don't be so hasty with your belief that Krummenacker is out of USATFs.

I hope DK is still good to go. But this just illustrates how a deserving runner could so easily get nixed for something minor.

I believe I was too quick to post this topic. My co-worker Sieg Lindstrom points out that an athlete need only compete at the USATF meet, not in each particular event, to be granted the Worlds defending champ spot. Marion only ran the 200 in '01 but ran the 100 in Edmonton. Mo ran one round in Eugene '01 because he didn't compete in the 200.

In any case, he should be on the team just because damn near every track fan in the world wants to see Tim Montgomery and Maurice Greene face off in the 100. It would even get the attention of casual track fans. That's good for the sport.

Okay, maybe every track fan except Tim Montgomery's mom.
