Javelin conversion formula

Is there a way to compare historic performances given the changes made in the Jav over the years? What would a 1972 throw of 277 ft and a 1948 toss of 221ft 8inches compare to with today s spear, educated approximation would be fine.

no.... if it were a weight thing involved, perhaps, but since the aerodynamics were radically altered, it's now truly apples & oranges.

I'm sure there is a way to mathmatically (26.2 lurking?) compare World Record, #10, #20, etc, of each implement and era.
