The former "mile" record of John Robinson of Pasadena Dobie was at the same type of meet, the District champs of Texas District 23-4A (before the state went to 5A for the larger schools) on April 17, 1980. It was 1600 Meters. The UIL (interscholastic league) was running Metric, but as noted elsewhere,using the picture for places. There was a certain amount of reactionism among UIL leadership. Now, they have added the 4X200 for boys to balance the PV for girls. Most radical!
