OK, WK earned the honor of being the first guy on my dren list; but he also becomes the first to be pardoned, as a reward for a very good suggestion: why shouldn't T&FN choose Athletes Of The Week (world and U.S.)?
The previous poster was pretty blunt in taking USATF to task. While he/she had a point, we can't blame the folks in Indy too much for some of their "off the wall" choices. They're just playing with the hand they were dealt, being mandated by Congress to be all things for all people in the track world.
This means their occasional handing-out of AOW awards to people that those of us more interested in the elite end of things can't fathom.
USATF's pickle certainly does nothing to enhance the sport's image, or aid it in trying to convince the nation's newspaper and TV people that ours is a "real" sport. You don't get Major League Baseball sending out press releases noting that some Little League is the POW do you?
So, becuase we think track needs to be hyping the elite end of the sport all it can, we'll follow up on this suggestion and create an AOW program of our own.
