I heard, second-hand, that John Brenner, who was competing in the shot that day at GWI and later made the '87 World Champs team before a knee injury ended his career, said that one thing stood out immediately as he watched Carter's HSR throw: he'd never seen a shot fly that HIGH.

Makes sense in terms of physics, but I've always liked that picture of what it must have been like to see an 81-footer.
