Those who moan and groan over the state of track & field in the USA, go watch a high school meet. This is shaping up as one of the best ever and it's only April. Texas is boiling over, besides the great "miling", Scott Sellers, a soph, has cleared 7' 0" just about every meet this year. He's topped out at a soph class record 7'2.5" and rumor has it he cleared 7' 2.75" tonight.

I agree with you Andy, but Texas track and track are different animals. How fast will the kids need to run at Regionals in order to get to the State Meet? Will a 4:05 stay home? Keep us informed. I sure miss those meets.

Hey, maybe in a few weeks we'll be "complaining" about how someone ran 13:40 for 5000 at the Western regional and didn't qualify for NCAA's. Hopefully we'll have such a "problem!"

Don't forget there is a descending order list also. A 13:40 guy should get in through that door even if he doesn't finish top 5.

To answer the question whether 4:05 might get left home from a Regional meet, I doubt it. No one else is close to Magness or Stanley. But the 3200m is another story. While Brian Sullivan, 9:02.88 and Stanley 9:05.63 are favorites, sophomore Scott McPherson of Plano, 9:07.70 and Jonathan Sorrell of Plano West, 9:08.12 can't be ruled out either. No matter what, 2 very runners will be left home.

but I've heard you have to actually compete at Regionals or you can't go to Nationals. Anybody know if that means compete in that specific event?

WHAT ABOUT A TRACK SCHEDULE FOR THE STATE MEET FOR THIS YEAR WOULD LOVE TO COME TO YOUR STATE!

The Texas State meet is May 9-10, in Austin. It's a 5 division meet with the 5A (biggest schools)Saturday night. All things considered it's the best State Meet in the country. Level of performance, stadium setting, crowd size,etc. it's are to beat. No prelims everything's a final, only 8 advance to State in each event. My 4x400 relay ran 3:14.96 in the prelims and 3:16.92 in the final at Regionals yesterday and we stay home (4th place). Go to www.texastrack.com for all the Region results. 1600 - 1, Steve Magness, Klein Oak, 4:07.01; 2, Eric Stanley, Klein, 4:11.13; 3, Mitch Sanders, Cypress Springs, 4:11.65

also, in the 3200: 1, Brian Sullivan, The Woodlands, 9:04.84; 2, Eric Stanley, Klein, 9:05.61; 3, Scott MacPherson, 9:06.19

(Sullivan, you will remember, is the poor kid who couldn't advance out of his district in the 1600, despite running a 4:11; he had the misfortune of living in the same locality as Magness and Stanley.)

9:06 and 4:11 having to stay home is certainly a shame since some region probably had a 4:25 guy qualify. My question is is anybody has had a chance to look at the 300H results across the regions and who is staying home in that event. That's the event that always amazes me in Texas.
