It was a year of ups and downs. We had the emergence of the m200 as a marquee event, first with the X-Man (clearly the Tafny ‘Man of the Year’), then Gay, then Spearmon.
Then we had the busts
Gatlin went down hard - Marion was about to follow, when she got a last-second reprieve, but the damage was already done in the public’s eye. This seemed to overshadow even Asafa (aka Donovan) Powell's 9.77 =WR.
We speculated interminably about Wariner’s 800 potential (in the midst of a stellar 400 season). We obsessed about Gabe and Webb (again!), as Webb ran a stellar 10K (‘hurting’ himself in the process) and Gabe made a comeback that NONE of us saw coming!
We continued our love affair with WCSN. We agonized over ‘Book of Shadows’.
We found out from Skeets that being a slow runner makes you a fast hurdler.
We signed up to get free running shoes from Nike.
Two of the board’s most mentally challenged posters went at it over the HS Mile vs. 1600, as exemplified in this post:
Poster A wrote: ‘Recognize that the fight is not against Poster B; Poster B is not the enemy here. He is but the clueless tool who has been duped by the lazy, ignorant, head-in-the-sand bureaucrats at the NFHS who created the 1600. Poster B is to be compassionately pitied here. Undoubtedly his early indoctrination at a neo-con school such as Stanford, followed by 20 years in the Navy, is instrumental in his being unable to question irrational authority. There may have been a time when he was able to rationally look at issues such as this, but alas, that time is long past . . .’
We had the ‘AJ Cover’ brouhaha (w/ happy ending). AJ’s brilliant comeback at the end of the season helped accentuate the event’s best season ever (?) as the WR and AR went in one race.
We had multiple personality disorder breakdowns with the likes of Brutal/Texas, then Mandy/Prober/Accelerator/?
Sometimes we didn’t discuss current track news at all, instead we
* picked best movie lines
* discussed foreign languages
* waged Signature Wars - with Jack Bauer as ammo
* lost and gained smileys
* wondered where in the world EPelle was
* tried to link gh’s names
* speculated about Lance’s NY Marathon debut
* drank Zat0pek’s Kool-aid
* argued the pros and cons of corn on the cob eating styles
* had Fear & Loathing at Heathrow Airport
* mourned Bob Mathias and others
* found out (eventually) why track died in 1958
* saw Dick take a Pounding
* worried as the iPod thread never reached 1000.
* worried more that MJD and EPelle had as little life as the other Decamillennialists.

Zat0pek had a dream where he saw:
"Due to the sophisticated nature of labs creating undetectable performance enhancing drugs and masking agents, we believe it is in the best interests of the sport to suspend competitions until such time as we are confident that testing procedures yield fair results and accurate records. Therefore, the 2006 season is hereby canceled."
d_austin certainly had the double entendre post of the year with:
A few years ago after observing that Viagra was being advertised on T&F telecasts, I wrote that I thought this was a troubling indicator of the sport's flaccid US popularity. But Webb et al. have aroused new interest esp. among distance fans such as myself, and I wouldn't write such a letter today. Things are looking up!
MJD/squackee had their own stand-up routine here:

So what else deserves the Shock & Awe that IS a Tafny?!
