Regina's Last Year Objective

Postby Franko » Fri May 16, 2003 5:26 pm

Given that Regina Jacobs is now the reigning 1500 indoor queen, I couldn't help but remember some happenings from last year. After winning the short course title in x-country in 2002, Regina didn't go to the Worlds because she was going to devote herself to preparing for the steeplechase. The women's team would have medalled had she run. Nothing else was said about the steeple and Regina just continued in her 1500/5000 range with an 800 once in a while. Did I sleep through something?

Regina, like Suzy (seemed less the case last year) and Adam Goucher, has soap opera syndrome- every little decision, every little issue, every little change is magnified 800 times by their own sense of self importance. I loved seeing Teter running well last year because then I didn't have to see as much of Regina and Suzy in their little melodramatic roles.
