Re: White HS sprinters triviaDont forget Chip Rish, he won the California state 400 meters two years in a row-46.82 junior year and 45.7 his senior year which was the state record for quite some time. He raced against the great Henry Thomas of Hawthorne practically on a weekly basis. He is also still a member of the Jr World record holder 4/400 meter relay team that he contributed to with his 45.4 leg. He went to ASU and finished 4th in the Pac-10 45.83. The late Gabriel Tiacoh of the Ivory Coast placed first. Rish then went on to the NCAA's and lost his shoe in the first 200 meters of his 400 meter heat. After his freshman year he kind of filtered out and never really lived up to his full potential. I think he just burned out but he still holds the Orange County record for the 400 meters and his 21.01 was the record till a few years ago when another white sprinter by the name of Matt Bruno beat it with his 20.82, a time he's yet to match at UCLA. Rish's High School pr for the 100 meters was 10.40 but he was more of a 400 meter man. Jeremy Wariner reminds me alot of Rish but Wariner possibly seems to possess a few more gears.
Re: White HS sprinters triviaHow about Jerry Bright, Carlmont HS, Oakland, CA.
(9.6 100y, 20.something 220y in HS)US Olympic Team member 1968.
Re: White HS sprinters triviaMaybe Im late, but the guy who runs leg on Baylors 4x 400 meter relay team is the real deal and I pray that he makes the Olympic this year.
Re: White HS sprinters triviaI also forget to mention Larry Questad 1968 Olympic 200 meter finalist. ( Im not gonna qote this, but Im' almost positive he played WR for the Houston Oilers, cause I clearly remember them having a white receiver who ran circles around the Cleveland Browns).
Re: White HS sprinters trivia>Dont forget Chip Rish
Check the very first post on this thread.
Re: White HS sprinters triviaNobody's mentioned Anthony Tufariello...didn't he set some sort of 400 or 440 HS record in the late 70's?

Is everyone blind on this thread? Again, check the very first post on the thread. Last edited by huh? on Mon Jun 28, 2004 6:10 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: White HS sprinters triviaIf some one posted a question like "Who are the best black HS sprinters of recent times?", wouldn't he be instantly attacked as a racist? Just wondering...
Re: White HS sprinters triviaNo.
But to answer the 1st question, I would say Roy Martin, Dwayne Evans, Obea Moore, Houston McTear Re: If some one posted a question like "Who are the best black HS sprinters of recent times?", wouldn't he be instantly attacked as a racist? Just wondering...
Re: White HS sprinters triviaIn this case the phrase "Who are the best black HS sprinters of recent times?" would be unnecessary. One would just say "Who are the best HS sprinters of recent times". Therefore any race issues wouldn't even have to come into the frame at all, unless a certain agenda is kicking around.

Rish vs. ThomasRish (white guuy) vs. Thomas:
Who won or did Thomas not run the 400 at the CA state meae????
Re: White HS sprinters triviaForrest Beaty is an emergency medicine physician in Sebastopol.
It has been sometime, but Jerry Bright from Oakland’s Castlemont H.S. and Arizona State comes to mind.
And for Casey. I remember him back in 1998 running in Annecy, France with a gold (heavy) necklace. He wanted to go to Arizona State to be coached by Darryl Anderson. He did not go because of the school being on probation years before. I think he would of been great if he went there (ASU).
Thank the lord all mighty for the return and ever present Honky File for Sprinters.
Does the United State Society for the Antropological Studies of the Arcane have any idea of what kind of service this type of board offers? The positive implications of these discussions boggle the mind. White high school sprinters! Do we question why we have not seen a board about Caribbean hammer throwers of West African descent who are black?
I think that if we are talking about the fastest white HS sprinter you have to go to Jeremy Wariner. 20.4 in the 200m and 45.5 in the 400m. I'm not use that anyone has done that.....as far a white guys go.
I think that JT Scheuerman could give those time a run for the money this year, but he is another that is actually doing it right now that could be one of the fastest white guys ever. 20.90 in the 200m and 46.77 in the 400m......
Maybe if you read (or even reread) Jonathan Swift's "Gulliver's Travels" you would not carry on so much about white people so much.
I really can't understand why it is such a big deal to talk about white people as a group, but it is no big deal at all to talk about black people.
It is very much a double-standard. Why can't you just let it be? Why does it bother you so much, that you have to chime in and say that this discussion shouldn't take place and is a waste of time. That isn't very open-minded or democratic. There are jobs for thought and speech police in N. Korea, Iran, Nazi Germany...but there shouldn't be here.
"I really can't understand why it is such a big deal to talk about white people as a group, but it is no big deal at all to talk about black people."
Where did you ever come up with assumption? Wouldn't it just be peachy keen if the discussions were limited to athletes and not pseudo antropological meanderings?

that would mean: wandering outside of the tropics ?.. in which case it should be mango keen

Where did you ever come up with assumption? For starters, just take a look at the news. White sprintersI would be curious to know.. I can't think of many great white sprinters. Rish in H.S was great...
who else in college or pro????
Re: White sprinters
They were there, but you have to go a long way back to find them, as non-pale sprinters of West African descent have dominated for decades. Some of these sun-tan-challenged individuals from California include the following phenoms: Frank Wycoff Mel Patton Charlie Paddock Forrest Beatty
Here's a previous thread about great white sprinters:
http://www.trackandfieldnews.com/discus ... php?t=7670 As far as white HS sprinters for the past 30 years...here's a list for fun: 100m 1. Wayne Johnson '78 TX 5A HS Champ 2. Casey Combest '98 KY HS Champ 3. Matt Bruno '02 CA HS Champ 4. Jason Leach '84 TX 5A 2nd place 5. Trey Griffin '01 TX 4A HS Champ 200m 1. Wayne Johnson '78 TX HS Champ 2. Matt Bruno '02 CA HS Champ 3. Jeremy Wariner '02 TX HS Champ 400m 1. Anthony Tufariello '79 NY HS Champ 2. Chip Rish '84 & '85 CA HS Champ 3. Jeremy Wariner '02 TX HS Champ 110hh 1. Stever Kerho '84 CA HS Champ 2. Dan Lavitt '76 MO HS Champ 3. Joe Galeano '87 NY HS Champ Guys like Forest Beaty, Jerry Bright, Dave Masters, Mark Lutz, Dave Mills, Sammy Dierschke, etc....I don't know how good they were in HS...before my time. Although Beaty was HS AOY, so he's probably the best.
Thanks.Thanks for the list.
I would like to add , one very important detail, that is this: none of the ones you mentioned got laid as much as Rish in California and that means a lot to me. Therefore I think he should be one of the all time great sprinters.
