Music To Get The Party Started

Postby Vern » Thu Nov 10, 2005 11:50 am

Loving these music threads, let's keep them coming!

So many god-i-haven't heard-that-in-years-must-download-but-in-a-legal-and-responsible-manner tunes

Depending on the party:

Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
Party Out Of Bounds - B-52s
The Crown - Gary Byrd
Anything Whatsoever! - Clash
Everybody Dance - Chic

To get them up dancing.

Postby wineturtle » Thu Nov 10, 2005 12:26 pm

Theme from Shaft-gets their attention
You Can't Sit Down-gives them the rules
Do You Want to Dance-the asking song
Dance with Me- ditto
Land of a Thousand Dances once they are moving
Do you Love Me
Willie and the Hand Jive
Ride Your Pony
The Twist
Cool Jerk
Peggy Sue
At the Hop
Baby Work Out
Later when you switch to the slow grinders start with this for reminders.
Save the Last Dance for Me

Edit to add-I once had The Gentrys-Keep on Dancing with it's false ending recorded over and over for about 20 mins followede by 20 mins of Do You Love Me- The Contours and that false ending.

Joan Osborne doing Heatwave and Bootsy Collins doing both Do You Love Me and Cool Jerk on the Standing in the Shadow of Motown DVD. Second best music-oriented DVD next to Hard Days Night.

Full Moon by Armand Van Helden w/Common. Quite possibly the best party song of the past 10 years no one has heard of.

ooooh - good question - I used to put on those big earmuff headphones and play 'Whole Lotta Love" with that awesome middle interlude (made you feel like you were losing your mind as the music went left to right and then top to bottom!!) - THAT pumped me up before a track meet!

Every May, before our big half Marathon here in Indy, the first thing I do the morning of the race is play " At The Hop" by Danny and the Juniors, full blast.

I'd probably start with "Love Shack" by the B-52s and then fire up "White Light White Heat" from Lou Reed's "Rock N Roll Animal".
