Tom, you're an old New Yorker... I remember competing in High Jump against Tyrone Pannel in summer AC meets at Van Cortlandt Park... then Tyrone was killed in Viet Nam.

Many other tracksters KIA, Clif Cushman heads my first-remembered list.

Not to be selfish, but I am currently in the military.

Never had the pleasure to serve (the draft ended before my time and I wasn't unhappy about that). However, I am always grateful to those who have, and especially to those we lost.

While admittedly unhappy with most of the US military ventures in my lifetime, that unhappiness was/is directed at the politicians who got us there, and not the fine folks on the ground (or air or sea).

so many great young men and woman have served and paid the ultimate price. i am deeply grateful and feel quilty i did not. they ended the draft the year i was up. my number was 91 out of 365 which i think means i would have been drafted.
