Presenting the new Bond, James Bond

Postby JRM » Tue Oct 11, 2005 2:56 pm

The new James Bond has been selected to replace Pierce Brosnan. It's Daniel Craig, who is a relative unknown on this side of the pond (although I note that he played Werner Heisenberg in the TV adaptation of 'Copenhangen'). What's the opinion over in Brit-ville?

I am relieved, however, that they went this route instead of selecting any of the individuals listed in the second paragraph below! (not that I really follow the Bond series anymore -- I lost interest after Roger Moore).

It's James Blond

By Nicole Lampert, Daily Mail, Showbusiness Editor
11 October 2005

He has just proved his ladykilling credentials by seducing Sienna Miller from under the nose of his friend, Jude Law. Now Daniel Craig is about to become the biggest seducer of all - Ian Fleming's James Bond.

The actor, who found fame as Geordie in the BBC series Our Friends in the North in 1996, got the job after an 18-month mission to replace Pierce Brosnan. Scores of others, including Law himself, Ewan McGregor, Colin Farrell and Orlando Bloom, were considered but rejected.
Complete story here.

All true fans lost interest after Sean Connery! (There can be only one!)

Right. Connery was the equivalent of a 19.32. All the rest are struggling to break 20.50. Oops, sorry, I forgot this was a no-track zone.

And if you're good on Connery, you'll be able to link my two sentences.

Highlander, of course! Any ape would know that (and if you're good on Highlander -- or at least those who starred in it -- you'll be able to link that reference!)

Dang - I really wanted Clive Owen to get it, so we could get back to the 'dark side' of Bond, who, in the books, was genuinely amoral. I didn't like the pretty boy image the others gave him. Indeed Connery was the one and only.

Colin Farrell and Orlando Bloom, were considered but rejected.

Praise the good Lord, that would be absolutely ludicrous to have either one. Orlando especially.

Farrell: "Me name is Bond, Seamus bleedin' Bond" (I don't think so)

Bloom: After Troy, no way.
