You, A Desert Island and A MultiplexIn response to the threads that basically took Desert Island Discs and put them on the TFN boards, I have decided to start a third thread. Here is the question:
Suppose you were marooned on a desert island, and there was a 6-cinema multiplex on the island. What 6 films would you put in the theater?

Man, I gonna be one busy mofo, riding the bike to generate the electricity to run the projector that I'm manning, while I make the popcorn and take my own ticket!
Re: You, A Desert Island and A MultiplexHey, you'll lose weight powering the generator.
Here's my 6 choices: Gallipoli Best in Show Waiting for Guffman Kill Bill (double features are allowed with movies that have sequels) Pulp Fiction This Is Spinal Tap
Re: You, A Desert Island and A MultiplexJust un plug your DVD and plug in the corn popper.
BTW is popcorn required at the movies these days?
Re: You, A Desert Island and A Multiplex>>BTW is popcorn required at>the movies these days?<<
that is a very unAmerican question! Without the popcorn sales, the theater chain goes bankrupt, the entire ecomomy is dragged down, and suddenly we're in the midst of a world-wide depression that exceeds even the 1930s! Do YOU want to be responsible for global financial ruin?
Re: You, A Desert Island and A MultiplexYes, popcorn sales are what keeps the movie theaters in business, just as print cartridges is what makes HP profitable.
But let's try to stay on-topic: what 6 films would you put in your dream multiplex?
Re: You, A Desert Island and A MultiplexApocalypse Now (best movie ever made)
Lord of the Rings trilogy (so sue me for cheating - the third one if I only get one - it's the second best movie ever made) Blade Runner (best sci-fi) Zorro (Banderas version - best action/adventure) Matrix (first one - best special effects) Star Wars (best story)
Re: You, A Desert Island and A MultiplexDr Strangelove
Chinatown Clockwork Orange The Wild Bunch The Unbearable Lightness of Being High Sierra Double Indemnity Vertigo Catch 22 Husbands (John Cassavetes) Last edited by Per Andersen on Sun Jan 30, 2005 10:56 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Re: You, A Desert Island and A Multiplexnot before the Lord of the Rings trilogy and virtually any three James Bond flicks (exc the last, which was an abomination)
Re: You, A Desert Island and A MultiplexHouse Of Games and probably anything by Mamet.
Re: You, A Desert Island and A MultiplexPatton
Animal House Caddyshack Deer Hunter On Golden Pond A River Runs Through It Might add a few true-Bond (Connery that is) films if allowed more choices.
Top 4 movies as just picked by a group of UK film experts ("experts"?)
1. 'Goodfellas' 2. 'Vertigo' 3. 'Jaws' 4. 'Fight Club' http://aolsvc.news.aol.com/movies/artic ... 5809990021
I found a site that listed the top 10 in the UK survey (in reverse order, I'm too lazy to re-order them):
10. His Girl Friday 9. The Lord Of The Rings 8. The Empire Strikes Back 7. Tokyo Story 6. Citizen Kane 5. The Godfather Part II 4. Fight Club 3. Jaws 2. Vertigo 1. GoodFellas While I think that we can probably agree that most of these are fine, if not great films, the list seems a bit whack. I haven't even seen three of these films (His Girl Friday, Tokyo Story, and get ready geeks - Lord of the Rings - couldn't care less). Of the rest, only two deserve to be on the Greatest Movies of All Time list. Fight Club - fine film (being a Pulp Fiction fan, you gotta figure I'd like this film) but fourth best movie of all time??
