Matt Jones videoscheck out the www.jaguars.com videos and click the 5/2 dated features of Matt Jones. I am in shock at the speed this kid has at 6'6" 240lbs... its like looking at a supersized Ted Ginn Jr...and he has never run track...what a shame that football and bball attract so much talent.. could he or not be a factor in at least 6 events on the track or field... I could see this kid at anything from the 100 to the 400H.. from the LJ to the TJ to the HJ and obviously the decathalon...

Re: Matt Jones videosVery big and fast!
Maybe a 400 or 400H guy....
Re: Matt Jones videosShhhhhh! Are you TRYING to make Brutal mad?
Re: Matt Jones videosOne word. WOW. I saw him workout at the combine, and was impressed with his speed at his size. I had NO idea he could put it on the field like that.
Re: Matt Jones videosarent QBs meant to pass occasionally?
**edit** i know he wasnt drafted to be a QB Last edited by Rufus Cookie on Thu May 05, 2005 8:50 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Re: Matt Jones videosBrutal will say they're all faked...
Re: Matt Jones videosHe will say that there is "quicks" and then there is "speed". And who can disagree?
I find it strange how, when people see a fast footballer they automatically assume he will be fast on the track too. Running in a straight-line is easy. Being good at it is not. I feel this kind of talk is a bit degrading to those who are actually good at this.
Re: Matt Jones videos.. Thor... I think we all have a greater appreciation for track speed than any other speed on the market. Only a dope cant see the difference between speed and quicks and know what kind of frames can translate to track speeed. Hard to understand that, or how this degrades anyone... We have discussions all the time like this when we see some football that just seems to be a match for track... maybe we should have more discussions about track guys that could be great footballers... Leonard Scott?
..but in general we (as a little less than big-Three sportfans) imagine more talent coming into track not less... actually we need Brutals opinion on this one... Ill have to go over to his site (sub10) and see what he is saying as Im sure this has already surfaced over there...he is always one step faster than me... or is it one step quicker? Back to the video...I dont know what to think after watching it except the phrase "shock-and-awe" ... scary ..... never trained as a track guy, it made me wonder about what would have been possible. He is also a stud bballer, jumps to the moon. Certainly the deca. would be a safe pick.. after 4 years of training he would definitely be over 8700. I have to agree that the 400H would be a good candidate but I would guess that the 110H would too. I could also imagine near Powell-esque performances (28ft?) in the LJ ... again would take more than a few years of training... and its too late for any of that. oh well ... we are left only to imagine. Re: Matt Jones videosHe's definite decathlon material!
Re: Matt Jones videosWatching those highlights...it's pretty surprising to see a QB consistently out running DBs even with an angle.
The speed is evident, to say the least.
Re: Matt Jones videoswithout a doubt Jones' physical attributes are amazing, but to suggest that he's score 8700 within 4 years, placing him among the top 15 decathletes ever is a tad rich.
I'd imagine by August of this summer he could rack up pretty good points in the 100, LJ, HJ, 110H for starters. Whether he could perform in the throws, much less the vault, is an entirely different story.
Re: Matt Jones videosI gave the 6'6" number immediate currency for discus and figured two years for sub 47 in the 400. Agree though the shot , jav and PV are where the rubber meets the road.

Re: Matt Jones videosHad he started learning the events at 16, it's hard to imagine he wouldn't be over at least 8400 by now. We'll never know.
Re: Matt Jones videosLooks like a great football player, but I find it rather hard to make any valid judgements about "real" speed until he gets in the blocks and lines up against another sprinter.
Re: Matt Jones videosThose are SEC DBs and LBs .. not exactly the garden variety... however point well taken but we cant in that case say anything since he is not going to be getting in the blocks.
I base my assesment on how well his top end speed holds up and how does it compare with the average college DB. I then use my memory bank of other top track guys that carried the ball in similar situations... kid gets an added bonus since he never trained as track athlete. Re: Matt Jones videoschrist he's 240 lbs!!
I suggest, he's be a momumental flop in the nfl... can he play wide receiver, NOT just run fast...
Re: Matt Jones videosCheck out his senior bowl workouts. He DEFINETLY can play wide receiver.
Re: Matt Jones videos>Check out his senior bowl workouts. He DEFINETLY can play wide receiver.
--- Where can one find those? Link?
Re: Matt Jones videosMatt Jones went to the wromg school if he had
any thoughts of playing QB in the NFL he should have gone to a school who would have given him a shot at playing in a pass-happy offense.Florida St. maybe. Last edited by xcfan on Fri May 06, 2005 11:52 am, edited 1 time in total.
Re: Matt Jones videosActually he probably doesn't have the arm strength or vision to play QB at the next level. As for wideout workout play and college allstar game play is alot different then real game play......
