I'd say he is toast if true:

"Blouin later apologized for the gesture but organizers promptly disqualified him, citing Rule 145 of the International Amateur Athletic Federation, the world track and field governing body."

Oops - sorry - it just now got posted to the masterstf list, so I passed it on. We oldsters are a little slow on the uptake. Still funny, though. (not that I wouldn't be horrified if one of my athletes did it! - I guess that's not gonna happen with the strict discipline at my school)

"said sophomore antics are not uncommon among Quebec athletes. "

Sophomore???????? Hell, he is 23 years of age. Slow student? When I was a soph back in 1960 we were all 18-19 years of age.

MJD - no disrespect, but did you run out of fingers and toes???

4 years minus 18 months still leaves like years between your posting and the event......

Uh, maybe you should think about pulling your pants down next time you have to count past 20.......

????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Disrespect taken. I'll let tafnut explain it to you. I know you are a bit of a newbie.

If you do a search on Blouin, you will note that it was posted a couple of times in response to some things that were on point. As far as posting the matter, check out this post to TC one day after that article was written:

"I know this was all over the news yesterday but now it's on the front page of the Globe. It's the second item on the online edition. They haven't even taken Said-Sief's medal away yet but we're on the case. I can't stop laughing. Get Roman off the record with a few beers and I bet he would be too.
He's in a tough position.

"There's a higher level of vigilance here," Mr. Olszewski said. "It was an inappropriate gesture. There were families with children in the crowd."

http://www.globeandmail.com/servlet/GIS ... num_rows=1

And from the Star-careful with this one-there is a picture of the incident. I guess it's ok to put this kind of thing in a national newspaper that has a circulation in the hundreds of thousands. Don't kids look at the paper too?

More from the Star.

"Calgary's Lanny Mann, the gold medallist, was upset the incident reflected poorly on their event in general.

``We're in the headlines for the wrong reasons,'' said the 23-year-old. ``It's just too bad. I never saw it, but I thought it was pretty funny.''"

And more:

""I think the disciplinary action was quite appropriate," added Roman Olszewski in an interview with The Team all-sports radio station. "The officials were offended, very offended."

Good for Reid:

"Reid Coolsaet, the 22-year-old from Hamilton, Ont., who finished third by virtue of the disqualification, said that Blouin should have been awarded the medal and plans on mailing it to him."

"To the tall foreheads of the Canada Games, I say let's keep this in perspective."

http://www.nationalpost.com/sports/stor ... 64163.html"

Was there anything else VD?

Apparently I'm not as funny as I think I am - maybe I'll get better with time.......

I still don't get it - all those links were to articles written right after the event, except a couple that seemed dead.

Point being I was all over it when I was supposed to be all over it. This board started in April of 03. I wasn't going to just randomly dump it on the board 18 months after the event happened like tafnut did today unless I had an excuse which I did in Oct/03.

Don't worry about it. MJD has a a good sense of humor, but the super-accountant part of him gets rankled when you mess with his area of expertise: facts!

It's pretty funny that I chose to make a bad joke to an accountant on matters of counting.......

Unintentional - I swear!!

Is it just my computer, or is this thread stretching clear over to my kitchen?

I know what the reason is , I was joking. You know Martin, by and large you're a cool guy, but sometimes you can be a real ass.

If you're having a bad day take it out on your dog.
