Will be appearing on the front page later today. At a time when there's no news to report, who will show up there?

And after all that it's just Darold Williamson.

Fair choice, but just a bit of a let-down after all this speculation. ;-)

I pick H.. but Id like to see it as Marlboro
and in full cowboy gear.

But Williamson would make a good cover too.

I had an obvious question looking at the issue, 'why is the W#8/US#4 400 guy on the cover?' till I looked through the issue and found, to my delight, NCAA AND HS previews!

Random observations:

re: editorial - yes, I'm a Field & Track guy, and yes the lack of meet info bugs the stew out of me.

What's the very first word of the body of the issue? ................. you guessed it - Webb!

I like the SD pic on 16 AND the PV center spread!

Love the skeds on 18/19 - I may just xerox them and bulletin board them.

Jon - you'd better get a copy now, cuz you-know-who is profiled!

This issue highlights what T&FN does better than anyone else and why a sub should have been on your Xmas list.

Thanks for the heads-up! I've not yet ordered the rankings issue, so I might chuck the Feb issue in with the order.

They'd better have given a mention of you-know-who's website in the profile!! ;-)

Tough questions! I'll hazard a guess at a few of them, but I've never heard her talk about most of those things asked, so... here goes:

>1. Favorite Meal

- Sushi (Or at least that's what she was eating when I met up with her in November!)

>2. Breakfast:

- Porridge with banana and honey (on race days)

>3. Ice Cream (semi-trick question)

- Haven't the foggiest (is the 'trick' to it that it may be the answer to one of the previous questions?). I'll hazard a guess at chocolate.

>4. First car:

- Again, haven't the foggiest. All I know is that she got her car whilst at Uni. I'll say Ford Fiesta.

>5. Favorite female athlete:

- Ingrid Kristiansen

>6. Boxer(?!):

- Muhammad Ali (pic of them together in her book)

>7. Soccer team:

- Again, never heard her talk about football much but the most half-decent 'local' club to her would be Leicester City.

>1. Favorite>Meal
- Sushi (Or at least that's what she was eating when I met up with her

** Correct!

>2. Breakfast:
- Porridge with banana and honey (on race
>days)

** Correct! (actually, 'oats' with banana & honey

>3. Ice Cream (semi-trick question)
- Haven't the foggiest (is
>the 'trick' to it that it may be the answer to one of the previous questions?).>I'll hazard a guess at chocolate.

** Close, but no cigar! "Funky Monkey or Chunky Monkey or something like that"

>4. First car:
- Again, haven't the>foggiest. All I know is that she got her car whilst at Uni. I'll say Ford
>Fiesta.

** VW Polo [never heard of it]

>5. Favorite female athlete:
- Ingrid Kristiansen

** BZZZZZZZZZ! Derartu Tulu.

>6.>Boxer(?!):
- Muhammad Ali (pic of them together in her book)

** Correct!

>7. Soccer>team:
- Again, never heard her talk about football much but the most>half-decent 'local' club to her would be Leicester City.

** BZZZZZZZZZ! Liverpool.

Only 3 right out of 7? - oh, the shame and humiliation. On the other hand, I know nothing about SD's likes/dislikes, and I still claim to be her #1 fan, so there.

P.S. Go/NoGo on your recent project?

Wow, that is a surprise. I felt 95% certain on that one, as Paula often describes Kristiansen as her idol, heroine, confidante, mentor, etc, etc and they always speak very highly of each other in the press. I suppose "FAVOURITE athlete" is slightly different perhaps, but I'd never have thought it would have been someone against whom she competes so regularly.

>P.S. Go/NoGo on your recent project?

Not quite sure what you mean, but if it is what I think you mean, then yes, full steam ahead. (Email me just to clarify, though...!)

I'll e-mail you later, but '24' is coming on now!!

I, for one, am glad that the T&FN cover is not a merit-based competition, and I would even appreciate an even wider range of covers -- mix it up a bit!

I couldn't agree more - I think they should seriously consider anyone who is a 54-year old 1.60m HJer, 16.5 100Her, 3.50m PVer, 10.95m TJer.

Hmm.. I'm not quite so convinced. You really need to nail that start in order to get under 6-seconds. And even if you do, I wouldn't trust it. I'd give it the same credence as Lalova's 10.77. It just doesn't seem at all likely.

No worries tafnut! Jon would need the Fayetteville track a strong aiding wind and some "flax seed oil" to come anywhere close to your world leading mark. Park a few British babes on the finish line though and all bets are off!
