What is Your Favorite Beach?Could be for a number of reasons:
Great running sand Terrific view Warm climate Excellent place to relax Anyone been to Dubai? What is your favorite beach or resort area?
Re: What is Your Favorite Beach?I don't do beach, per se, but my favorite coastlines are a tie, Big Sur in California, and the Adriatic between Split and Pula.
Mostly when I go on vacation, the air fare has set me back enough that I can't justify (to myself) just lying around on a beach. I can do that at home. I guess I am a bit of a puritan.
Re: What is Your Favorite Beach? We talked a little bit about this in late July, but I have reason to suspect that there are dozens of places in the Florida panhandle that can hang in there with any beach in the world.

Re: What is Your Favorite Beach?>"satch don't need no tan"
Now satch, if you don't need NO tan, doesn't that mean you DO need A tan?! Personally I am starting to suspect you are an albibo, by all this obsession with 'pale' people. And albinos don't tan, so if your double negative was merely unintentional, then that PROVES you ARE an albino, aha!
Re: What is Your Favorite Beach?Give me anywhere in Negril or Ocho Rios, or even Montego Bay as a last resort.
Re: What is Your Favorite Beach?During my continental hitch-hiking days, there was a sandy bench high above Interstate 80 near Echo, Utah (near UT-WY state line) that was a special spot for me. Fine white sand, a great place to catch up on sleep, read Kerouac, relax.
Re: What is Your Favorite Beach?I was thinking more M & the M kind of Echo Beach-although I wonder if it is the same thing? If you are standing on it TD, which direction are you looking?

Re: What is Your Favorite Beach? Not following your M & M reference (Eminem? Pasty-skinned Detroit boy?) but, UPON FURTHER REVIEW, this spot was actually just east of the I-80 and I-84 junction, above I-80. Here's the link:

>10/2-10/9. No kidding. I go there every November for a week. Apparently, last year I just missed MJ and TM by a few days at the fitness club about a block off that road that I go to to work out at after my run every morning. You're playing with fire with the hurricane season this time of year. Place cracks me up. They close the schools if they get a hard rain.
Re: What is Your Favorite Beach?>Setting up income tax scam for retirement?
That'd be me.
Re: What is Your Favorite Beach?OK, so where are the world-wide T&F fans from the French Riviera or the Gold or Sunshine Coasts of Australia to give us your take on this?
Yeah, the beaches of Kauai and Maui are incredible, but my favorite running beach is even more exotic -- Heron Island on the Great Barrier Reef of Australia. Utter paradise. And I can run around it in half an hour. And I'm slow.
Re: What is Your Favorite Beach?Ocho Rios and Pismo Beach.
I asked this question, because autumn has made a harsh entry here, the skies have darkened sooner - rather than later, and the rains have come down much earlier than I:d hoped.
Re: What is Your Favorite Beach?Like I'd tell anybody! The fewer people the better.
Re: What is Your Favorite Beach? There's a hidden gem on the west coast of Vancouver Island, south of Tofino and part of Long Beach. Parking lot empty, signs say "No camping on beach", and that keeps away just about everyone. Beach is part of a reserve, and they don't mind you camping, you just have to know about it. Had 100 metres either side of my tent, and the most incredible moonlit privacy. Tide came right up to the tent and halted. Wouldn't have mattered too much, we'd finished all the vodka.
Re: What is Your Favorite Beach?>Like I'd tell anybody! The fewer people the better.
There are great open strands and cliffs at the lake in the forest behind my home that very few people know about. No one asks about them, and certainly, no one tells! One problem this summer was that people from aross the waters began trekking over to our side on their boats, and have discovered what has been a hidden gem for many years.
Re: What is Your Favorite Beach? The Grand Wailea Resort Beach, Maui, Hawai'i, where I will be going for a week in November, yeah!
For running, then I would have to choose between Merthyr Mawr in South Wales and Ninety Mile Beach in New Zealand.
Re: What is Your Favorite Beach?Tamarindo, Hapuna, East Beach Santa Barbara, Carpinteria
Re: What is Your Favorite Beach?I too like Ninety Mile beach in the North Island of New Zealand, my other beach is Burning Palms in the Royal National Park just south of Sydney Aus.
Re: What is Your Favorite Beach?Tafnut is correct in citing the great Florida panhandle beaches. But my favorite beaches are in the US Virgin Islands. Tops for running would be Magen's Bay on St. Thomas and Maho Bay on St. John.
Re: What is Your Favorite Beach?Wailea was my favorite beach before they built the Grand Hyatt, but I continued training on that one because it was about 600 meters long and relatively flat at the surf.
Re: What is Your Favorite Beach? The beach at Ecola State Park in Cannon Beach, Oregon. Flat and wide and a perfect setting, about a 600-meters long protected on both sides by huge rocks. Used to be able to walk right down to it but a hard rain washed the steps away -- now requires a long hike through the woods to reach the bottom.
Re: What is Your Favorite Beach? You're all wrong. ; )
Cow Wreck Bay, Anegada, British Virgin Islands... White sand uninterrupted for miles Virtually uninhabited Rum punch flows like a keg at a Kappa Sig party Lobsters the size of Mini Coopers End of discussion
Re: What is Your Favorite Beach?ahhh SB, Cal - lived, trained on beaches to become fast and famous during Ryun, Winzinreid, and decath guys days (Sam Adams et al) - more than a few - aspiring T&F athletes there at the time - many 'on the cusp'. But the beaches were -- outstanding. Oh fast and famous thwarted by multiple stress fractures - dang
Re: What is Your Favorite Beach?Yeah, no one, the beach and Sam Adams both define SB. He is one of the great, generous, low-key men of track and field.
Re: What is Your Favorite Beach?Miller Beach, Gary Indiana. Nestled between US Steel and Burns Ditch, the fine glaciated sand (this means rounded, not sharp!) extends from the water up into the the hills of Dunes National lakeshore. Nice waves with a north wind, totally flat with a south wind. Even great in the winter, when the ice piles up into large mounds in the shallow water, and sometimes freezes out a mile or so for the explorers.
I remember seeing Rudy Chapa running there when he was a mere lad, 3 years away from HS greatness with his 2 other sub-9:00 teammates. Total length from end to end, probably 8 miles of uninterrupted sand (well, you do have to go over 1 boat launch ramp). Just take the South Shore electric train from Chicago to Miller, and head north about 2 miles.

Sorry, guys, but when I think about the beach and Sam Adams, I'm not thinking about a track coach.
Re: What is Your Favorite Beach?Although it's kind of you all to share your favorite beaches, it would seem to me that the more such information is out there, the more likely it is that they will no longer be anyone's favorite beaches.
Of course, there are many people in the world that probably prefer hordes of people on a beach. Perhaps that is protection from sea creatures.
Re: What is Your Favorite Beach?Eagle Beach on Aruba. Anything else is a distant second.
Re: What is Your Favorite Beach? We used to live 50m behind the Crane Beach in Barbados.
